2018: Mutiny Bay Courtyard Refurbish and New F&B Outlet

Although it is disappointing I can see the logic behind it. I think the dismay wouldn't be as apparent if the food offering and quality wasn't so poor in the park as it currently is (Burger Kitchen etc.)
This is a major area which Merlin need to address as a whole in regards to all of their RTP's F&B operation.
The proposed Smoke House at least would have been someway to remedy this problem.

Take a look at the Chessington menu earlier in this thread, its a rib house, not a steak houseWas this Steakhouse actually announced and confirmed by Towers?

Indeed, it was never officially announced but it was meant to be happening in 2018. Initially it was going to be part of the SW8 site before they submitted the planning application to convert the Courtyard.
Alton Towers have 3 years from the date of being granted planning permission to begin work on this development; so they can wait as late as 20th September 2020 if they so desired before they could no longer go ahead with this project. I really do hope they come back to it for 2019 but suspect it will be conveniently long forgotten.

The main problem of course with the courtyard smokehouse (and the old barbecue) is that no indoor seating is available. And in fact the new plan for the smokehouse counter will take seating out of the Tavern. AT really needs more indoor places to eat for the parts of the season where we don't want to be outside, therefore in general I would support improvements at Towers St Grill over re-opening the courtyard BBQ.

I quiet like the outdoor seating and was dreading the though of the Courtyard having the seating enclosed. Due to the size of my wife wheelchair and the nature of her condition, indoor seating is a big no no for us. Far too cramp for us. I'm sure the same applies to those suffering with autism where enclosed spaces full of people can be very much of an overload for them.

Good point I hadn't thought that some people might prefer it outside where it is quieter, even if it is a little colder.
I don't think this planning application will enclose the courtyard seating much more than it was before, just a few screens to keep some of the wind out by the look of it. But they do need to replace the seating for the Muntiny Bay Burger Kitchen that has basically had the Wickerman station built on top of it!

Not that it matters now, but do Alton still just sell Fosters or whatever, or have the locally brewed ales available at the hotels made their way on park yet?

Still just Fosters, Boddingtons etc. Really wish it was possible to get a half decent beer in the park! Not that it matters now, but do Alton still just sell Fosters or whatever, or have the locally brewed ales available at the hotels made their way on park yet?

The phrase "extended picnic" is not used enoughOften resort to Newcastle Brown, though I prefer an extended picnic on express parking, much better food and drink there

The Freedom beers are available from the Rollercoaster Restaurant, but as of the end of last season that was it.

Do we have confirmation from Towers themselves that it’s cancelled, or is it just a rumour from TowersStreet’s sources?
We don't just post any old rumour on Facebook.
Take it as fact.

We lost the stage, for this!?
We lost the stage as AT didn't think running live entertainment was worthwhile when the guest numbers dropped after the incident.
