i couldn't watch it. Probably because I've not seen the originals. But I got about 2 minutes in to it and wanted to beat both of them to death with the wet end of their own severed arms.

For the love of Wardley, someone send them to Tom Scott for a crash course in how to look professional on YouTube,

I don't think this coaster needs a story as an excuse to be in a pirate area, it just needs to fit in. It ticks the box as far as it's wooden, but it can't deviate too much from at least looking like a back ground setting of a pirate bay.

This doesn't have to be in story form, I even thought the Smiler tried too hard with the whole Ministry of Justice presents X Sector thing and attempts to link it with Oblivion. What mattered was looking at these coasters together as separate entities and seeing if they at least flow in to each other and don't clash with the overarching theme of the area. After all, who would want any major attraction at Towers to 'match' another and likewise who wants to actually read a back story of a roller coaster.

However having spent time today observing the theming atrocities that have been committed in Transylvania at Chessington, I have no faith whatsoever that even the slightest bit of thought has been put into anything I've just said.

And before I get the old "but pop factories and blood thirsty vampires didn't go together either" spiel about the Flume and MB - 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Don't know how popular this opinion is but I always thought that the flume was almost like an area of its own and didn't really clash too much with mutiny bay. Hopefully they can pull this of with SW8 too or intergrate the theme some how.

So where was the logo found? Was it with the trademark protection?

Looking at the logo, bar a big ugly slab of wood, or a leek signs job,(ala the atrocity that is the smilers entrance) I fail to see how they can integrate that logo into a 3d space.(like they did with 13, Rita, ect)
not going to storm the gate just yet, but don't think I'm not sharpening the axe!

Perhaps injection moulded and lit behind with twinkley LED's to simulate burning embers?

I used to really like how the fish and chip shop (that burnt down) in FV had the Nemisis story on the wall.

How about Mutiny Bay becomes 'Mutiny Mooring' the pirates favourite mooring for taking on supplies. They head to local pub to stock up on grog (the bar at the courtyard - which I believe is staying with the new smokehouse?) And all the punters are whispering about mysterious goings on in the woods, fires late a night and villagers never coming back.

This could be done very neatly with some storyboards (old style newspapers maybe) around the smokehouse and surrounding area.
I really like that theme and I do think SW8 will be associated to Mutiny Bay or whatever it gets re-themed to in some way. Otherwise they wouldn't build the scare maze in Mutiny Bay.

:eek:WHAT DID I JUST WITNESS?

I just watched that SW8 video and wow...wow...the amount of...liquid awful in that video was...wow...I think I'm blind...

Where do I begin?
That male "presenter" makes me want to kick dogs but, ah well, that's to be expected.
My main issue is that the female "presenter", (who, thanks to Eliots refusal to speak clearly, I'm forced to assume is named " Jaws") is psychotic!

"Ohh you would definitely be my type in those Eliot"

After Eliot tells her to shut up, she then starts waltzing around the room breaking stuff in a bizarrely fetishistic display of unadulterated terror!

After witnessing Eliot tripping out on Merlin's magical crack-laced headset! We are treated to the th13teen segment!

Still high from varnys secret stash, Eliot starts ranting about the devil before grandly revealing, that he has been stalking and secretly filming Jaws all day, as a cold chill surges through Jawses face, we move on to the smiler section!

In this final dose of pure evil, jaws, shaken by recent events finally snaps, as we see her with her hair down as she talks blankly into the screen.

With one final warning the they will return, we are left with the sound of hell itself...

I'm scared...

I popped along to Towers for a little look around today; SW8 has really come on so much since I last saw it. Impressed is an understatement!

Anyway, here is a photo update for you all!

We'll start at the bottom of the site where plenty of wood has now been erected:

Various pipes are being stored here, presumably for drainage and/or effects:

The queue line is progressing well, this I believe will be one of the extensions:
21192944_10159292175725343_282196400181016318_n.jpg

And a look at how the queue will wind up the site from the entrance in Mutiny Bay:
21150449_10159292178685343_1194022813438792141_n.jpg

As you can see, the queue will provide some lovely views of the ride:
21192083_10159292179350343_6458942736308423197_n.jpg

It will also get extremely close to the ride structure as it passes the queue line shop:

The banking (or lack of it) on this turnaround by the queue line shop is bizarre; it's either going to be rather slow at this point or there will be some serious laterals:

21105825_10159292186010343_2253277961023611430_n.jpg

There is clearly much more banking on this turnaround; also notice that they are landscaping as they go along with turf being laid around the footings:

More landscaping/border work in the middle of the site:

Up at the top of the site, the beams of wood which the rails will be attached to are now in place on the first drop and give us a good idea of the profile here:

Leading into the first drop:

A hut is being constructed by the theming object, I assume this could be some sort of effects control building:

What could well be the final coaster footers on the site are now being worked on:

Moving to the station building, the plans stated that the roof tiles would have a thatch effect however it seems like they have gone for a weathered slate effect instead. This matches the colouring of the wooden walls:

An interesting feature on what I think will form part of the pre-show section of the station building:

A peak at the theming object which I think it going to look very impressive:

Finally a look at the coaster from across the lawns near CBeebies Land:

There really is so much going on at the moment. Please do feel free to share these photos elsewhere but do provide the appropriate credit and link back to TowersStreet.

:)

This is starting to look a lot more promising than the plans, especially with the potential themeing, the pipes posted look like they're for 2 different things, the corrugated pipes are for wires of various kinds usually, with the others looking like drain pipes. Electrical wires for controlling effects like fire?

Block paving for the queue line? They really are spoiling us!...

Nice to see they're making the building look run down so that when it actually is run down, people won't be able to tell the difference.

The coaster itself looks great so far though.

Great update Rob, thank you! Just a few thoughts I had:

This ^^ is a lot less "cattle pen" type of queue than we're used to with Merlin's rides. Wonderful! Perhaps the folk at MMM are finally starting to get it.

It will also get extremely close to the ride structure as it passes the queue line shop:
21192625_10159292180735343_3965376469074773185_n.jpg

This has got me baffled. How on earth are the Healthy and Safety nutcases at Towers allowing the queueline to get so close to a section of track like this? At first I thought this may have been the rear of a shop, but you can see the counter window so it's definitely the front. That gap can't be any wider than 4-5ft surely?

An overview shot of the site from the Skyride:
21192367_10159292185240343_1381185667363684136_n.jpg

I really, really hope that big wide path winding through the ride is actually a kind of plaza area where none queueing guests can walk around the ride - like all of the classic coasters. That would be massively impressive and put me on good terms with this coaster.

With the main queue going around the exterior on the right, the Fastrack queue surely would not need openings this wide?

I am cautiously optimistic about this investment. I realise that, yes, despite the logo and marketing, this is a family coaster. And that Nemesis looks naff on paper.

Nonetheless, the drop is much more junior than anticipated, and that unbanked turnaround is rather bizarre, but presumably just signals the end of the course? I like Thirteen. I'm not sure we needed another Thirteen. Even if it is made of wood.

I'm thinking this will be a great ride, but ultimately we will come off wishing it was just a bit more

I'm thinking this will be a great ride, but ultimately we will come off wishing it was just a bit more
..which is far better than coming off wishing it had ended sooner! (Cough *Smiler* Cough). Joking apart, Nemesis is so great because it leaves you wanting more, there is definate potential here and I am frankly amazed at how the ride is starting to look, the buildings look great, even foundations are being cladded, there is an immense looking themeing structure and the quelines look well thought out and customer friendly; will the ride live up to this promise or will the short layout humble it. This is almost the complete inverse of the smiler development in every conceivable way, which considering the initial commercial success of the smiler is a bold move by Merlin. I want this ride to be a success so that it sets a different path for developments in the future.... we can only wait and see!

Those pipes, the ribbed ones are drainage pipes (if they have holes in), the smooth ones for conduits for electrical cables (lighting, effects etc.).
