2019: Rulantica

There's no manually translated captions (they're just in French as you said), but there is the auto-translate option. Pick that then choose English from there.

Its not yet confirmed but should government approval come soon Rulantica would be prepared to reopen on 15th June says the park director. Opening hours would be reduced with the park closing at 6pm allowing them to operate with fewer staff members. Capacity would be caped at 1500 guests per day (down from 3500).

Yes, I have just read the same.

I tell you what - you are like a living, breathing EP news machine!!

Certainly be interesting to see how that works out social distancing wise. Must be even more difficult in a water park.

I think an important distinction with a water park though is that chlorinated water is effective at killing the virus, so anything (...anyone?) regularly in contact with the water, by its very design, is disinfected.

Would still be an issue in the out-of-water queues for the slides etc. though.

As reported on ES Facebook, Rulantica will resume openimg until 10pm from 3rd July until early September.

Additional food and drink offers including a BBQ Food truck plus a pop up restaurant will supplement the experience along with 1000 sun loungers and relaxation spots outside around Frigg Tempel.

Hi everyone, advice please.

We are heading to Rulantica in the not so distant future, but as we have a young baby we will need to do the rides on an individual basis. Does anyone know if you can do this?

Vinter Rytt is a four person raft ride, Svalgur Rytt is a 4 person tube ride and Stormvind & TVA Fall are both two person tubes. Do they offer single tubes for these attractions?

Thanks

Hey Jambo. We visited Rulantica at Christmas last year and noticed that it really doesn't cater towards single riders very well. There were a handful of single rings dotted around, and I'm unsure if you are allowed to ride in the double rings alone. The 4-person rafts were also restricted to either 2 or 4 people. They might have added more single rings by now though, I hope so anyway.

Vinter Rytt and Svalgur Rytt cannot be ridden solo. Typically they would try to put single riders with others then however with COVID restrictions (one household per raft) that isn't allowed at the moment.
For Stormvind and Tva Fall there are a few single rings available to use, while the Odinras (Hugin and Munin) do not. However for all four of these slides you can just use the normal double rings - its preferred by the manufacturer that single guests do sit in the front of them when using it solo fyi (but its not enforced and having sat in both it doesn't feel any different tbh).

It was just great to get back into Rulantica on 5th August! This time, we ensured we had more time as in December it was all a little rushed. Once again, we used the hotel entrance via Kronasar, which meant no locker charge and complimentary towels.

We entered the park at 11am and left at 9.30pm.

Improvements since December:
  • Vastly increased number of loungers meaning everyone could have their own for the day. We left our towels at base and this was very helpful!
  • Increased food/beverage offering and spaces to sit outside and in. I also noticed toilets outside for the first time.
  • New ACE related vinyls added to the large windows. These look fantastic.
  • Theming has been completed on the roof of Lumafals.
Still issues with:
  • Black walls in Vinterhal/Ragnakor slide tower queue line spaces
  • Slightly boggy grass areas outside. They probably water the grass in the mornings to prevent it from dying, but it meant you were squelching!
Construction on the two new outdoor areas (Snorri Strand & Svalgurok) was continuing apace! Also, they are advertising the new chill-out spaces for adults, which are due to open at the end of the year above the Lumafals restaurant.

So one of the biggest reasons for me to get back to Europa this year (well I don't need much of an excuse) was Rulantica! It's a great addition to the Resort - here are my Observations and Pro's/cons

  • The Receptionist at Kronasar (where I was staying) gave me the tip of wearing the bath robe from my room and walking across to Rulantica already changed! However NO SLIPPERS in the room - this is more of a hotel issue than the water-parks, but it was quite glaring - as I had to awkwardly wear my trainers and my robe! hopefully with the new wellness/spa area at Kronasar opening soon - they will include these!
  • The Rula-bands (or whatever they were called) so very innovative - but they are Ugly as sin! they remind me of those plastic cheap watches you'd get in crackers or something! yuk!
  • the entry system by entering a stall on one side (getting changed) then opening the door on the other side into the locker room was inspired and for-went any need for gender separation
  • The heated floor and general ambient temperature was nice inside
  • however the water in the outdoor bar (and the indoor one) I found a little on the cold side- they could have done with some heated tubs so you had the option of being in somewhere a bit hotter! I found i got chilly sitting there with my cocktails
  • however i LOVE the idea of immersive water bars!
  • Snori's saga - Hmmm ok my biggest bugbear - it had nice moments (the bubbles, and the shadows off the mermaids) but that huge Rectangular LED screen is an eyesore, unclose it's even worse! - Im also not a huge fan of MackMedia animation - They should have filmed REAL actors/divers/underwater dancers in mermaid costumes IMHO! they also need to break the shape of the square screens. Also it just lacks a certain 'magic' really which they could easily inject (fibre optics, drifting fog, underwater lighting etc), also some of the tunnels - are very 'square' ......just artexed concrete tunnels meaning it's hard to suspect belief that you're floating through caves! I hope its something they continue to improve!
  • Despite being huge - Rulantica kinda feels like there isn't that much to do! which is unfair, cos on paper (and maps) theres a lot - it's just a feeling I got.
  • The ice castle area - is a bit MDF-y..... and the queue line to the slides - so much more could have been done to feel as though you were in an ice mountain!
  • The waterslides where good - but were where the innovative multi-media or LED effects? (yes I've spent hours on 'TUBERIDES' on youtube so I know what's possible - I expected a bit of story telling injected into the flumes themselves!
  • I LOVED the outdoor rapids run - at night especially! best attraction there!
  • 3 hours is enough, I wondered if one evening slot would be enough - and it totally was
  • It looks good from the outside - the designers and Architects did an amazing job of creating a pleasing dynamic complex with a clear aesthetic
So in short - It really is fab, but it did miss the mark in several places! I really was excited to experience an immersive water park - and yes it's half way there! I do hope they continue to improve over time, all I can think of is the budget was spread as 'fairly' as it could - I mean this was a HUGE project so it's absolutely expected - they'd have been better starting small like Plobsaqua - with a really intimate immersive experience and then expanded - but they just went in there and did it! which is admirable! I hope they return to certain areas - and it being Europa, I have faith that they will!
