Would health and safety covid -19 risk assessments not deem alot of RAP guests as vulnerable as being higher risk of complication if they get covid? Therefore at this time is it wise to visit a theme park and if they wish to should they be asked to wear PPE eg mask to decrease risk of infection?
That would be a risk for the individuals to take though, not the company. If an individual feels they are at greater risk if they contract COVID-19, then they should question whether they should be visiting themselves.

OK can I pose this question , one day EVERYONE who visits the park and I mean EVERYONE has a RAP need. I mean these are exceptional times and this is an exceptional day. What happens? ........ Err there is one queue , the RAP queue what would happen then would each customer accept that they all need to be treated the same as EVERYONE is in the same situation.

On a different note overall people and I mean EVERYONE is going to have to accept this has changed everything. This is a new normal and it's not going to change soon . We will all need to socially distance whether is 2m or 1m (as Weatherspoons are pushing for ) and we ALL will have to wait a bit longer whether it is at tesco, McDonald's or Alton Towers this is the new world and we will just have to accept it.

This already happens. The RAP queue during fireworks for Wickerman was an hour in its first year. Kind of proved that most of the people in it could tolerate a long queue but I felt for those who genuinely couldn’t.

That is a good point and again this goes to show this situation is a game changer. The individual is totally responsible! The company has made all necessary changes deemed necessary. Therefore if the person should contact covid-19 there is no one they can sue or blame.

How are they going to operate duel guns and battle galleon water blasters? They are going to need constant cleaning !

Provide alcohol gel at the ride exit so you clean your hands after touching things. Its almost impossible to sanitise every surface after every person so easier to clean your hands after touching.

The other issue with Alton Towers is many of the queues aren't suitable for people with slight mobility issues. Even if you could stand for 90 minutes, some people may not be able to manage the large number of steps in most of the rollercoaster queues. Only Oblivion stands out as having a nice shallow ramp to the station along the queue, most other coasters have steps or steep inclines.

Level access is what the RAP queue were originally for. However the fact that you still need to step up or into some of the rides undermines this. The rapids is one example of this, you still need to also negotiate steps on the exit platform (used for RAP access) as well as stepping down into a tub whilst the turntable is in motion.

Can they stop the turntable? Surely that's possible?

This isn't necessarily true. There is a ramp down to the turntable and they stop or slow down the turntable for anyone who needs it.

Stopping the turntable causes issues too which I’ve witnessed many times, sometimes staff forget to stop people boarding the boats as they restart and that initial jerk is enough for people to lose balance.

This is also the point of a RAP. You don't wait in the queue line, you get a time to come back. So it wouldn't matter if the queue was an hour because you'd go and sit down somewhere or have a drink and then return at that time.

If everyone had a RAP pass it wouldn't affect the users needs, they'd still get on the ride without any problems, they'd just have to 'virtually' wait longer.

If you are using RAP, you can't use the ramp or bring you wheelchair onto the platform, you need to be able to walk from the photo kiosk to the platform via the steps and board the boat, non ambulant guest are not allowed to ride

The Rapids have 3 speeds, they can slow it down to speed 2, but the ride can't operate at speed 1 and they won't stop the turntable for boarding or disembarking. They only stop the turn table (E-Stop) in an emergency.

You still have to use the steps as well as step down into and also out of the boats

Why would they build an access ramp if you can't use it?

On a lot of rides like rapids, evacuation procedures mean that you must be ambulant at least to an extent. Enforcing that all people use the stairs down to the turntable, or walk a certain distance to load on other ways, is a way of ensuring that only those who are sufficiently ambulant ride.

I understand that and I've seen in wrote on things that you have to walk so far, but if this is the case why build an access ramp?
