I personally find it staggering that in such a remote area for such a large resort there isn’t any on site accommodation for seasonal staff. They would have no problem employing people of college / Uni age to come work fixed term for the summer if lodging was thrown into the mix.
I agree with this. If Towers did that I'd be able to work there, as I live a fair distance away and don't drive.
I thik Drayton have staff accomodation in the hotel, but only for pernament/full time staff.

Managing young seasonal staff in group residential accommodation often has real, expensive issues.
Even the police had management problems with their own officers at the Cornwall summit, and not just one!

Ride close was extended to 5.30pm yesterday around lunchtime. There was then a park wide power cut around 4.30pm which kind of wiped that out.

Thousands of officers housed on a boat, what could go wrong? She was Christened HMS Misconduct.:laughing:

Ultimately, and this is true of any business providing a service, any operational issues they have is not a concern of the customer. They shouldn't see them or know about them. Covid restrictions just about give the most leeway for failings, but we've had variations on the same restrictions for well over a year and that excuse is wearing a bit thin. They should have measures in place to reliably run their business to the point that any shortfalls aren't felt by visitors.

Seems they are still on a push to recruit for rides teams. The anticipated increase in self isolation amongst younger people in the next few weeks could well make their staffing problems worse. Let’s face it a high percentage of seasonal staff are young and the expectation is that they will be impacted by the increase in covid rates in the next month or so.

And especially heading into the summer hols the short staffage could be a real issue.
Wish I lived closer, drove or they had staff accommodation, then I'd be able to apply. :(

Get a pushbike with a luggage rack and a tent mate, you would have a hell of a summer.
Free accommodation on the lawns every night!

I'm not sure their pay is that competitive anyway? Its probably no better than most supermarkets or restaurants for similar work. Although the hours are probably shorter most of the year compared to supermarkets that are usually open to 10pm.

It seems to have decent spells of downtime. It was closed for about a week earlier in the year, and is on its 2nd consecutive day of closure again. Flavio's also had a couple consecutive days of downtime last month, but Mixtape and Roller Disco seem to be consistently running well.

Towers pay is only competitive for under-21's, as they pay the seasonal staff the over-21 minimum wage rate.

For anyone 21 and over it's just the standard minimum wage rate - and a lot of these people can probably get work closer to home that at Towers / with lower travel costs.

I kind of hoped they might be doing away with Passholder prebook at some point - I personally won't be forking out for a MAP if I have to book weeks in advance whenever I want to go!

It won't change this year in case things have to roll back and they need to limit capacity again.
Maybe they will make changes for 2022, but its helping them plan the opening hours a lot so pre-booking is very beneficial to the park. Also Disney have also stated that park reservations will stay for the foreseeable future, so there could be changes towards this across the whole industry towards reservations.

Interestingly though on the Alton Towers site the new wording is less strong.
The current wording is anyone will NEED to pre-book a ticket as capacity is reduced.
From 19 July wording is please make sure you have made your booking online and check the website before leaving home for updates.

So its possible they may move to allowing entry on the day, but I expect it will be after the school holidays in September when the park is quieter anyway.

Same here, I like the freedom of just turning up as and when without pre-booking in advance. I don't know what the weather is going to be like in a few weeks time. I don't want to make a 8 hour + round trip to find out that the weather is not great, plus it is no fun for my wife to have to sit in a wheelchair getting wet in the rain and having to sit in her wet wheelchair all day and for the travel home.

I know that Merlin were trying to get all attractions as pre-booked before covid came along (I've life long friends that I have know since a teenager and they used to work at one of the attractions). I doubt that the need to pre-book will ever go, there are here to stay. The problem is they are reaching capacity for pass holders, but plenty of free spaces for on the gate tickets. I just hope that Merlin are not deliberately limiting pass holders knowing that they will have to purchase a ticket. It's a horrible system. With my local Zoo, I can pre-book as a pass holder on the morning of the day that I want to visit. Our local Zoo also looked after us pass holders, because when they re-opened early on this season just after lock down, the first week was exclusively for pass holders only, which was a nice touch to show how much they appreciate and look after their pass holders. I feel that Merlin haven't looked after their loyal customers. However, they have kindly extended our passes to the end of this year, but again, they are completely useless if I can't get anything pre-booked unless I pre-book a good few weeks in advance.

Pre-book for MAP holders almost certainly won't go away this year. I know for a fact that many companies in the leisure sector that have had to restrict capacity during lockdown are playing it very carefully until at least the end of the school summer holidays.

The company I work for had closed all it's sites at one point, then when allowed to re-open had capacity restrictions in on both the sites in general and also certain activities. In view of Boris' announcement re: 19th July, some of these restriction levels have been increased, but are not back to pre-covid levels by any stretch of the imagination.

The link between covid cases & deaths has, thankfully, been broken. The risk is how many of the new cases heading into Winter lead to the NHS being overwhelmed. I know my employer is worried about an outbreak at one of their sites forcing it to close at short notice for at best a very deep-clean. The same could easily happen at Towers, or indeed any leisure / mass-gathering venue. I sadly don't think we're out of the woods yet by any means - as Chris Whitty has alluded to today. Of course, I hope he is wrong, but the numbers do seem to speak for themselves.
