Is that building actually still there?
The bulk of it was removed, but the part that used to hold the animatronic duck scene is still SBNO and barricaded off, gradually being reclaimed by nature.

I believe it’s hidden underground/within the terrain, so it isn’t visible when you walk past the area on the Wicker Man path (as I call it), but it is there, as far as I know.

Bizarrely, there’s also one singular concrete support from what looks to be the indoor drop that they never got around to removing…

Probably never will be removed due to it being protected ancient woodland (I think) and to remove it would disturb the environment potentially causing more damage than just leaving everything in place.

It seems the facade of the ride has been given a repaint. The smokey, ashen grey really makes it look very grotty and sinister! The smutted brick tower seems to hearken back to the original style of The Haunted House also.

Edit: Spooks R Us appears to have gone into liquidation too!

I love what they've done to the Turret, but the rest of it? It seems really unecessary, the house looked wonderful already and a bit worn, while still having some colour in it. This though, just seems a bit boring, and I bet you I won't look that good in 5-10 years time.

Wonder what they're doing here?

Planter or sign perhaps?

I would imagine the ride is complete now. They'll be well into the final touch ups and testing I would imagine. Bit late in the day to be removing things from places and installing in the ride
Why so? As far as we know they could be really behind schedule and still working on lots of the scenes. Or they could be very on schedule as there’s still a month to go… of course we’ve no idea of the full extent of what’s actually been removed or installed in the building.

Besides (and I know it’s a bit different), large scale theatre sets can fly up and be fully installed in less than a day, so what’s to say the same’s not happening with this ride? :)

The story for the update sounds amazing and I’m sure they will pull it off. I for one is very excited and can’t wait to see what they’ve done.

That's a shame because I quite like it! It might not matter anyway if it is just the base coat as mentioned above.

Why am I suddenly having a conversation about paint? Can this ride just open now so I can think about something else...
For it being a base coat, I think @Tom was joking since everyone hav even discussing about Nemesis's new track being black and some people saying its a primer/base coat. Anyway, the turret, 10/10. Everything else, not so much, hopefully they'll give it more colour rather than just grey.

It’s clearly not the final product so I think it’s a bit silly to form a judgment based on one image.

We’re just over a month away from opening and the exterior could look completely different by then.

OH PFFFT. Sorry if I didn't catch onto that joke  I literally only created my account to follow this project and haven't been keeping tabs on that 🤦‍♂️

Perhaps it will look quite different when it's done but I think the kind of bleak look really visually communicates the tone of the ride. It actually makes me chuckle that Alton Towers have always been perfectly fine with insinuating children have DIED in the Haunted House 😂 Doesn't get more dour than that!!

I thought this ride was supposed to have the same style and theme as the original HH but with different sets and a storyline? Im sure John said on the interview that he wanted the ride to have the original ethos of the Haunted House. Am I wrong here? Please let me know if I am.

if, IF the facade is keeping this look, personally it feels a bit too intentionally spooky for the sake of it. This paint job (if it stays the same) feels like a house made to be Haunted, while the older paint scheme looked like an old house that was a little spooky in a natural way. I think the latter worked really well, so I don't see why they'd repaint it apart from if they were gonna give it some TLC like we've seen on the turret. The rest of it looks like a "for the sake of it" movement.

Also, if anyone didn't notice, the new fencing from Gloomy Woods to Forbidden Valley has been completed!

If they were really behind schedule it wouldn't have a confirmed opening date. Seeing as they are doing all the marketing etc I would imagine the ride is pretty much complete by now.
