Something to do for 30 seconds in the queues!“Here’s a further look at the brand new Alton TowersResort Map, which is also the world’s first fully 3D rendered theme park map”
So on the new app we’re gonna be able to pinch, zoom and swoosh around a 3D map? Possibly animated from looking those screenshots? Awesome idea
I like anything that’s taken effort, even if it’s something small someone might notice subconsciously during their day. They all add up. This ticks that box.Something to do for 30 seconds in the queues!
I imagine there would be opposition to the line opening again due to the loss of the foot/cycle path to the public. But we are seeing small rural stations opening again such as Okehampton in Devon which has been a success so its possible.
There isn't anything like the capacity on the current Churnet Valley Railway to operate a shuttle service to Alton, neither does Froghall have anywhere near enough space to be able to build the sorts of parking facilities needed.
Steam trains are costly to operate and temperamental, if one were really considering extending the line you would need an electrified transit system. It would cost millions.
Total pipe dream.
I think pretty much every where in the uk there are a huge amount of protections on bats so I feel this alone would mean it won't workI believe (much like elsewhere) there is a bat colony in Oakamoor tunnel

Not really an obstacle, there are loads of working stations on the mainline where the station building has been turned into private housing.Alton station building is now a holiday home so that could prove tricky to turn back into a station!

I would think it depends on how it is set up, if it is made that you have your fenced off area so it feels like people aren't comming into your house I think it could work, and may be an appealing factor imagine waking up to a steam train outside your window. Not really an obstacle, there are loads of working stations on the mainline where the station building has been turned into private housing.
Might reduce the appeal of the holiday let somewhat though if crowds of park goers alight outside your window at 9.30 every morning!
Kids these days have no idea how to read a simple map. They are used to full 3D images, oriented for them, with arrows telling them where to go. Give them a good old A-Z and tell them to go round the corner, and their heads might explode.Increase app battery consumption, make people run their batteries flat, sell more charger pack rentals
I'm firmly in camp "make it like the tube map" personally. Don't need whizzbang graphics when I'm looking for directions
Hopefully this will calm down the “disgusting” price rise clan. Smoother surface, upgraded pathwork, new festoon lighting and EV parking won’t have come cheap and the money has to come from somewhere.
I don't understand why destinations like Towers should have to provide chargers. You don't see petrol pumps. If you're getting low on battery, charge up en-route to Towers or on the way home. Not really when you consider Alton have had the car parking charge for years now. They have probably made enough money to tarmac this ten times over during these years.
As for EV charging I was waiting for this chestnut to pop up. Our car insurance is already going through the roof due to EVs , why should we have to pay towards installing chargers - I thought that’s what the charging fee EV users pay to charge their vehicles was for?
