[2024] Voltron Nevera | Mack Stryker Coaster

January feels quite late for the track to be going in. Isn't it usual for track to go in first and buildings/structures to be built around them? Could this be opening quite late in the year?
From the progress made onsite so far I'd have thought they'd be ready for track in the next few months.

There is a mickey-taking bit in the new episode where Patrick again states that track isn't due before January, before the site manager says they need them a little earlier. Like you said, the site is certainly progressing pretty quickly, so based on that and what's mentioned in this week's video I'd be inclined to agree we'll be seeing track long before January.

Thanks Craig, I havn't had chance to watch it yet so I was just going off of other comments.
 
We’re assuming this is going to open spring/early summer.

Clearly they haven’t announced a date, which we can then add a few months onto for the perennial EP delay.

Should I be embarrassed to admit I quite like watching groundworks? It's like a half finished jigsaw puzzle. You get a hint of what it might be and it just opens up more mysterious.
I've produced a few myself now and it's really cool to watch construction start and see the different elements take shape.
 
The one thing EP have “struggled” with previously is construction times.

Pirates aside…..

I guess we don’t know the actual schedule but recent new additions always seem to be open in Summer time, not park opening.

Could be a clever tactic from the park, having guests walk past the coaster and wanting to go back later in the year. Hopefully they can operate this during Winter season too.

I mean….they’re still MUCH quicker than Disney at construction.
 
It surprises me that EP allegedly struggles with construction times.

If their build speed was anything like their ride operations, the coaster would probably be finished months before it was due to open!
 
It’s a more recent thing really, not sure they struggled (except for Ireland) I think they just stopped stressing about having something open for the beginning of the season. Probably because they are more a year round park these days (only really closed 2.5 months of the year depending on when Easter falls).
 
Work has finally begun clearing the former staff car park by the roundabout at the other end of the coaster layout. This will be home to the maintenance building, Wardenclyffe Tower, turntable and swing launch - as seen in the concept art of this area released recently.

The massive station building/complex continues to grow.
 
The park's French Social Media Manager made a few remarks about the project in this French interview.
- The coaster won't be finished for the start of the 2023 season. Opening will more likely be late 2023.
- It will be a new MackRides coaster, a new prototype with many innovations, many super interesting elements based on the Big Dipper [.. .] There will be many new elements that have never before been seen in a Mack coaster, or in any coaster at all.
- It will be the cornerstone of a new themed area, initially there will only be the coaster. The area will be expanded and other attractions added later.



The mention of the opening being late in the year sparked some discussion on the EPFriends forum - eventually Parkleiter Lukas Metzger (1 of the 2 documentary series presenters) chipped in:

That is a shame but ultimately not a great surprise as it is such a large project. I hope the Austria developments open closer to the start of the 2023 season.

I'd say Austria will be season start.

Hopefully this will be summer.

It feels like this is a decision on the part of Mack & the park. If they wanted it open at the start of the season, they could have made that happen.

They have more control over the project than any other park in the world.

My previous comment still stands. The pattern of previous openings wouldn’t discount a late Summer or Autumn opening.

I get the impression that every project at EP is completed with the primary aim of improving the park offering overall, rather than attracting an attendance bump. In that context, the opening timeline isn’t as important for the park.

You're right, although it could be that uncertainties throughout Covid meant that work started later than they'd ideally liked it to have for a 2023 project. I doubt they have deliberately decided that it will open later in 2023, and Lukas has said they do not like it either. So some other factors are at play here.

Hopefully we'll hear more tomorrow.
 
The latest episode of the construction documentary is out. It's 25 minutes long this time, and here are a few key points I picked up on:
  • They are actually going to be building 2 of these Wardenclyffe towers, one at the start of the ride (on the station building) and the other at the far end (as we've seen in the plans that have come out)
  • The station building is a former hydroelectric power plant that Nikola Tesla has taken over and adapted to perform his experiments. Sound like the ride will be a part of this, with you riding his energy transfer or something along these lines
  • They are aiming for a 2023 opening but they just do not know right now. The main issue is the lead time on electrical control systems which can be 60 to 70 weeks. They are working at full throttle so we'll just have to wait and see
  • The reason the coaster is slower than others in the park is so that they can do more tight and crazy elements (these have to be taken at a slower speed)
  • There are more attractions planned in the future for the Croatia area
It also sounds like we have one more episode of the construction documentary until they take a break with it and presumably resume it next year.
