2025: General Discussion

I mean, while on the face of it this is just an advert for National Rollercoaster day and how Nemesis makes so many people happy etc, but could - and its a big could - this be the very beginnings of something happening with Galactica? Reminding people of the story of Nemesis and the Phalanx involvement, then as the remainder of the season plays out we get other teasers? I think it's unlikely, but something to think about!

I hope poor Percy didn’t have any sort of ear infection and they washed his old water bottle 😂

I think the point is they’re honouring the ‘legends’ that have made their most famous coasters.

Nice to see them upping the production value- definitely better than those old promo videos they used to do for stuff like battle of the coasters that used to look like they were filmed on a Nokia.

I just watched it and was a bit confused? It's a cute little nod to The Johns™ with some easter eggs but the precursor suggested it was something rather than simply a nice video. The tagline 'every heartbeat...' has me suspicious though... is it in itself a precursor or a little teaser? Or have I spent too much time following these things that everything has to have meaning now? 😂

They’ve also put out a short, vox popping people around the park about international rollercoaster day, haven’t seen that type of media from the park previously and it makes a difference from constant influencer ads that they post online.

Definitely the type of content they should post more as it builds a base on social media of continuous engagement with the park brand, meaning algorithms will push them more for organic growth. Influencer collaborations have their place, but they might only get a single engagement when social media is already pushing a lot at people.

This is what Towers were teasing the other day...

That was a bit confusing.

On a metacontextual level, I think we were expecting something more than just a short video, but even the video itself is a bit odd.

It makes Nemesis seem really scary at the start and all, using a heartbeat sound to create tension. But, then at the end, making it seem all sweet, using the same heartbeat sound “motif” now, I suppose, in a weird attempt to invert it, that comes of as more confusing than a twist?

What’s with the callbacks to the advert?

I’m not angry or disappointed, I’m just quite confused.

In short, Alton Towers are doing some partnership with a leakproof underwear company to encourage women who are worried about bladder leaks to go on coasters instead of holding the bags. I don't know how much of a problem this is so I shall have to rely on the ladies of the forum for this. There is a quote from Bianca Sammut in the article, do we know when she is leaving?

I have to say I'm not really aware of this as a specific problem although actual post-partum women might have a different take on this. I think for women that struggle with bladder control there would a number of other activities they might choose to avoid, not just rollercoasters, and in any case there's an extensive range of bladder control products out there if it is a real problem.

Personally I think there are probably other reasons women choose to be the ones 'holding the bags' - much of it to do with culture and societal expectations. So many women feel pressure to be well groomed and let's face it, coaster hair is a thing! I embrace it, but I can see why it might make other women self-conscious. Perhaps less so now but in the 90s and early 2000s riding extreme rollercoasters also wasn't really seen as an 'acceptable' past-time for women so for many it will be something they've not really experienced until they have their own children who want their mums to join in the fun.

Lots of percentages being thrown around but no mention of the sample size taken which always makes me skeptical of these things - especially when they're conveniently backed by a company trying to sell stuff.

I for one am happy to be the official bag-holder of the family - maybe when they bring out motion-sickness-preventing-pants I'll join in a bit more.
