2025: General Discussion

IIRC, O2 hosted an event back in September 2019 where they did a park buy out as part of a competition for O2 customers to win Alton Towers tickets. I’m not an O2 customer so can’t confirm if this is happening again this year, or whether this is an internal staff event.

I assume the temporary mast is so their customers or staff can use their phones without experiencing signal blackouts. Wouldn’t be a great look to win a competition or attend an event hosted by O2 only to realise you can’t use your phone.
O2 are currently offering a priority queue for customers at Towers, Chessy and Thorpe; you can generate a QR code that apparently lets you skip the main gate wait in the morning. That's the only thing advertised atm but wouldn't surprise me if it were them. They had a mysterious 'something big is coming - register now' section a few weeks back but I didn't click. Pretty much never have any coverage at parks on O2 (or anywhere really 😂) so it'd be great!

That's funny because i was on Three for about 15 years and always had poor coverage, especially at theme parks where it became a problem accessing the digital RAP systems. Then i switched to O2 about 18 months ago (in relation to travel costs not UK coverage) and it's been so much better everywhere, especially the theme parks despite my device not changing!

This is the first year where I have only been to Alton Towers twice so far ( I usually go more then twice) and I don’t count Splash landings as that is outside of the actual park. I went with my grandad and it was a fun time! We looked and obviously went onto rides. Since my grandad is old I didn‘t go onto any extreme rides. Still fun!

Towers have had temporary mobile masts up in the past - I can recall one in the coach park probably about 15-20yrs ago. (Turn right into the coach park / priority parking and it was about halfway down there on the RHS between the turn and the park entrance monorail station).

Such masts are pretty common at events, as it you get too many phones on a certain network in high concentration (i.e. employees of a particular network, all with company phones) the existing infrastructure won't cope. The only calls that will get through for sure are 999 / 112 as the networks prioritise them.

When BT / Cellnet had their original buy-out event back in... err... was it 1999 / 2000? They had 2 temporary masts up as they knew the site would be flooded with mobiles, all on Cellnet. This buyout day was actually the best day ever I worked at Towers - the demographic of the guests changed 100%. Guests were offering you their litter to put in a bag / bin, queues were short.

Got a freestyle cup voucher can these be used to get the nemesis or Wickerman cup ?

No unfortunately they can only be redeemed for the standard Alton Towers cups

I know originally you couldn’t get the smiler/nemesis/wicker cups, but the other week when I used my voucher in Towers Trading they asked me which cup I wanted and offered me the Wicker cup and the standard towers cup.

Ah I might ask them if I can then must depend who you get serving

A friend of mine cot the standard one a bit ago but they are useless as they leak. If I got a cup is is feasible to cut the chip from the bottom and hot glue it to a regular bottle and use that?

Alton Towers building a new stage with a canopy where it will go remains to be seen

It helps the discussion if you reference where you have seen something?

Anywho, just saw this on Towers Times feed.

Feels like a positive step, unless it’s for a replacement of Big Fun Show Time in CBeebies of course.

Always thought the goal striker location would be a good place for a stage.

Surely they'll be building it where it will go. Where have you seen this?
Towers Times posted it on Facebook about 50 minutes ago. The planning application is available on the Staffordshire Moorlands website.

It states a stage and canopy structure but does not yet state the location.
