[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

I've heard rumours about a flying theatre being possible, but wouldn't that be too tall? Would be a nice addition though.

From looking at the planning applications at Legoland (although can't find high resolution versions) the building is around 25m Tall and Alton Mouse was around 17m So surely with the extra tree growth over the years and possibly digging and building down it could easily be disguised. Pure guess though.

For reference Soarin's Building at Disney World is approx 24m, I think once the 19th comes we possibly will know how tall the building may be which may add top the weight of the rumours being a Flying Theatre

It assumes this isn't just "filler" sw9 might be something all together different. AT has a lot of capex debt to pay. Fanciful, but this could be a golden age of reinvestment.

*By capex debt I mean there has been underinvestment and a period of overinvestment could be required.

But who’s to say what Wardley has said isn’t going elsewhere?

This could easily be a flying theatre and SW9 could be an entirely different project.

It is just us speculating that *this* is SW9.

True, but a Flying Theatre would be a major investment and SW9 will also be a major investment. Major investments are usually at least 3-4 years apart at Merlin parks these days.

This is just a radical thought, but could a flying theatre (or something equally as big) be a SW? I know they've all been coasters up to now though, and I don't think that will change.

Of course, I don't see why not. But Wardley has heavily implied that SW9 features some interesting innovations, and I don't think a standard Flying Theatre fits the bill.

I’m with you. If the park wanted a flying theatre or other similar indoor attraction, why not just use the 4D theatre and Nickelodeon buildings instead and just modify them?

I reckon this new proposal is for something big. There are at least 3 sites in TWoDW for its Phase 2 expansion, if that ever happens.

I'm sure the Nickelodeon building will be reused for a ride in the future though I have suspected as bring a Ninjago clone with a reskin for whatever theme they have in mind though would they have another tracked dark ride when you have GG just quite literally on the other side of the street?

Flying theatre is worth a shout though I'm unsure just how much room there is in there if you were to gut it all out if you could fit in that sort of ride within that space? It has been ages since I saw a full plan of the layout of the building so I need to look into it again.
 
Partly because I'm currently off work recovering from 3 broken ribs and partly because I am a massive nerd, I thought I'd try my hand at some concept art for what I'd love to see for this ride:

The idea is a BBC Planet Earth IP, with a full retheme of the area to lost woodland village, with the big indoor attraction being a Mack Powered inverted coaster, themed to shrinking you down and taking you on a journey past different forest animals and habitats using screens and animatronics, all narrated by David Attenborough.

I'd love to see something like this at Alton Towers, bridging the middle ground between kids and thrill, with an IP done thoughtfully and well rather than just cobbled together somewhat.

You're not a nerd (says the guy who spent two hours modelling gate and ride prices in Planet Coaster lol).

Your concept is great. A Mack powered inverted coaster like Arthur with some Alton / Wardley magic would be amazing, but I think it would need an outdoor section too to do it right, which may not be possible in Coaster Corner.

The locals would open up a six pack of whoop***.

I may not be a fan of IP's for rides but...

...who could hate Daivd Attenborough? More class than some of the dated or cheap IP's Merlin goes for! :p

I really rate the concept! And I can see something similar come to AT, albeit without the IP (fingers crossed, sorry!). It would make a nice contrast to the dark Forrest, especially being relatively close. Similar themes but one is full of life and flourishing and the other decaying.
 
It's expected that HM's funeral will take place on the 19th September. Could we see the consultation postponed?
