[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

Cost cutting !

I spoke to the Mellors Operators a few weeks before the end of the season. As it’s usually needed over Winter, it’s not usually removed, merely stripped and inspected. This year however, it’s being taken to Nottingham Winter Wonderland. He wasn’t sure whether it would be back at Towers next year or not. It appears the contracts and the staff that end up working it isn’t told to them until needed a few weeks before the season starts.

The planning permission allows them to commence works up to June 2026, so plenty of time for this to happen if Towers still wish to go ahead with it. They could push it as far back as a 2028/2029 opening.

Personally I feel it would be a shame if this project is shelved/scrapped. The whole of Walliams World/The Dungeons needs a huge overhaul and an indoor coaster could complement a refresh of this part of the park.

If planning allows them to push it back to a 2028/29 opening then that may not be a bad thing if the rest of Walliams World goes with it. There's empty buildings and an entire indoor family boat ride system there that could do with all being sorted around the same time over a couple of seasons or so.

The next 3 years need to be focused on sorting the rest of the place out. I can't see that happening of course. At best we'll get a sprinkling of flats (not enough), and the Monorail limping on in its current embarrassing state.

I'm confident a new large investment is coming, and it makes sense for it to be Horizon. Whatever happens with Horizon, it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Universal hypotheticals.

Given how this new project at Chessington has a lot of similar elements that many feel could be done for TWODW in which other than this new indoor coaster for Chessington there is the total rebuild of Wild Asia...could we see a copy and paste job (no Minecraft theme ofc) for a possible expended Project Horizon including a rebuild with TWODW totally rebuilding that area instead of yet another repaint job?

Given how MMM behind that area is no more come next year, then there is the chance to reuse that sight to create a much larger area and it wouldn't surprise me if talks of what to do with that area have been discussed.

I think get 2 flats in x sector for the start of 2026 and then start this. Gangsta granny et al are not my faves but I’d deal with that after project horizon

It’s arguably too late in the day now, but for 2026 I’d like to see the monorail sorted out as it’s a state.

Given the expenditure for Nemesis I only see a low capex few years.

Something like:

2025: Intoxicator, Galactica retheme started
2026: X sector flat & driving school moved to CBeebies (indoors), PH begins, 4D cinema revamped and reopens, galactica retheme opens
2027: Monorail revamp, blade removed, dark forest indoor ride (akin to the one at Chessington) , dungeons retheme
2028: PH opens, GG re-theme, TWODW retheme

Just had a thought regarding PH...

If Towers didn't have the restrictions on where they could build rides, I would have loved to see an intamin multi-launch that starts in DF then crosses over into the horizon site for a long twisted layout like taron and taiga.

But obviously it wouldn't be accepted because of the sitelines of the towers. Unless... They dig a trench for the ride to dive into to cross over to that plot of land, like hades 360 at mt olympus. Oh the dream

Also the Horizon/Coaster Corner site is extremely noise sensitive, hence PH being in a building in the first place.

Actually, to answer my own point, it looks like Flavios might have been removed after Christmas last year. In Danny's photos from January 2023, it was all folded up, looking like it was ready to be transported off site.
Flávio’s was still there during the run event but was closed all weekend.

I do find it funny that they use 20 year old maps for such things.

Why not... I guess... but also why?
I can only theorize but it's probably just easier to use a map that the council have already signed off on (and for this exact purpose) a couple of times before and its one less hurdle to jump in the application process rather than producing a new one that they then have to put their stamp of approval on.

Obviously there have been considerable changes in ride hardware since that map was first created but in terms of the woodland there's been very little.

I would also think that it would probably be very expensive to get a new one done, for such a large property (map making can be really expensive) as it would all have to be surveyed
