[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

Does the CBeebies 2026 coaster add fuel to the fire the Horizon is further delayed?

I would be surprised if they would want to launch two new coasters in the same season, even if they are aimed at different markets. It’s not something they have ever done before, unless my memory is failing me.

Maybe as mentioned above, they’ve gone back to the start with planning Horizon and expected a delay with a gap, so used some of the funding for previously Horizon towards the new CBeebies Coaster (potentially with a Galactica retheme also?).

Then apply to Merlin with a separate application for funding on the revised application, with an argument that they already have planning permission with the project?

Work would have already had to have begun by now for it to be opening in 2026 so it was pretty much a given it wasn’t opening then anyway.

The planning permission allows them to commence works up to June 2026, so plenty of time for this to happen if Towers still wish to go ahead with it. They could push it as far back as a 2028/2029 opening.
Quoting myself (arrogant, I know).

Within the current application limit, it could be that they are revising what to do. If they keep the existing building permission, they could get this going by June 2026 for a 2029 opening (three years after the new CBeebies coaster). Alternatively, we could see an extension to the planning permission if they decide to postpone this even further.

I feel like this will happen, eventually. Hopefully it's a part of a bigger multi-year project focusing on that upper half of the park.

Now that O'Neil has gone, it should be easy to convince anyone with half a brain that they need a new major rollercoaster investment, and it should only take a year to go up.
I don’t think O’Neil was necessarily the issue, seeing as both Minecraft Land at Chessington (whose star attraction looks to be an Intamin Multidimensional Coaster) and the upcoming CBeebies Land coaster at Alton were seemingly green lighted under his tenure.

Not coaster related but I wish this were the early 90s where two decent rides would launch in tandem. It’s such a shame that something like a Nemesis and TT launch would be unthinkable these days.

Why can’t CatCF/Dungeons building and Horizon launch along with a retheme of Walliams World be a thing? Such a shame.

I suppose the parks learned that spreading major openings was more likely to result in repeat visits.

It’s not unheard of though, Jumanji at Chessington opened with 3 rides, though admittedly only 1 was the real attraction. Minecraft looks likely to be similar. Of course both these examples rely on the creation of a themed land.

In TPWW's latest video about the CBeebies coaster, he mentions at the very end that his next video (tomorrow) will be about more info about Project Horizon. Whether that is just going over what is already known or he knows more from his sources, remains to be seen (from 8:13)

Did he make into onto the Creator programme? In his Hex video he seemed rather displeased with what it offered?

First half just speaks about what Towers have said in their posts, second half speculation that Postman Pat ride is going and what the new coaster will be themed to - Bluey or something else. That's it really.

Or to put it another way, thanks to summarize.tech:

"The video highlights the announcement of a new junior roller coaster planned for Alton Towers Resort , set to open in 2026 within CBeebies Land. Alton Towers has applied for planning permission, signalling a new era of transparency with fans. Speculation suggests that the existing Postman Pat attraction may be removed to accommodate the new ride, indicated by yellow markings near its current location. Enthusiasm surrounds the ongoing updates within CBeebies Land as it celebrates its 12th year. Discussions also point towards the possibility of the new coaster being themed around the popular children's show Bluey, taking advantage of its rising popularity. While official details remain pending, excitement is palpable among park fans, bolstered by mentions of upcoming updates related to another project, dubbed Project Horizon."
