I know there are other members on here who are of a similar age to me, so I was wondering; did anyone else get A Level results today?


I got mine, and I got an A* in Computer Science, an A in Physics and a C in Mathematics. To be honest, I’m not sure how to feel. I’m obviously very pleased that I got an A* in Computer Science, as that’s the subject I’m doing at degree level from September, and I’m also very pleasantly surprised by the A in Physics given that the A Level wasn’t exactly plain sailing for me, but I can’t help but feel a nagging feeling of disappointment that I only got a C in Maths. I guess I’m not hugely surprised, as I always found A Level Maths, particularly the Year 2 stuff, quite difficult, but I can’t help but be disappointed that I didn’t get a B or an A.


But did any other members get A Level results today? If so, what did you get and how do you feel, if you don’t mind sharing?

No; the entry requirements for my first choice Computer Science course were BBC. I got an unconditional offer, so in theory, that shouldn’t matter too much; the university sent me a letter congratulating me on achieving my place, anyway!

I guess I was just hoping for a higher grade, even though I always found Maths somewhat difficult…

Congratulations Matt, good luck in Uni.

If you tell people you have an A Level in Maths, 90% won't care what grade. You did well to achieve your results in a pandemic year :D
 
Congratulations, those are great results and well done on getting into your first choice University. Gettting a C in maths is still an achievement that not many can attain and you shouldn't put yourself down :cool:.

The University of Gloucestershire; the Computer Science course sounds great, the Park Campus in Cheltenham (where I’ll be studying) is lovely, and it’s a very convenient commute on the train from where I live!

Cheltenham is a lovely town, but brave to stay with parents while going to uni! Although I'm guessing there won't be as many big events to go to for a while due to covid anyway.
 
Congratulations @Matt N - an A* in Computer Science is a huge achievement. Don't beat yourself up about the C grade, that is still a good grade and once you get stuck into your uni course your A-level results will be meaningless anyway.

Commuting to university from home can be a great option - it worked really well for me during my Master's course. It meant I could focus completely on my course work without having to worry about all the negative aspects of student life (mainly other's people's washing up!) and I still made loads of really great friends. Plus coming home after an evening in the computer room to a hot meal I'd not had to cook was bliss! :)
 
Well done @Matt N and good luck with your uni prospects! I hope you get the enjoy the full uni experience as the last year and a half was robbed from me and so many others. You should be proud, including of the C because that's still a great grade!

The university has told us that they intend for all of our lectures to be face-to-face, so that should be good, and much easier to get on with than online lectures!

As someone who isn’t really a huge extrovert, I think it’ll work well for me. I currently still find the idea of living away quite daunting, if I’m being honest.
 
Congrats man, great result.

Wouldn't worry about your specific grades though dude. Nobody cares once you have a degree on your CV. It might mean something that you did A-Level maths but it'll make no odds whether it's a C rather than an A.

As for living away, you do you. I wanted out of my parents house so made it happen, and as a result finished with 3 chunggo overdrafts all maxed out despite working 12 hours per week the whole time (stupid way that support is calculated expecting your parents to contribute but not actually asking them to). I had no regrets about it and I was lucky enough to be able to pay back everything I owed before they had interest attributed to them, but it's far from something I'd recommend.

You'll make friends with people who are living in halls and whatnot and you'll get a taste of the life that way, no doubt.

It's all about getting into Uni thats all that counts. Not a single employer will ever ask you about your A Levels in your whole life if you get a degree. It's like your GCSE's and A Levels never happened.

I got BBD in my A levels which still got me into Uni. I couldn't tell you where my A level results even are now. Then again i am now 36.
 
Congrats Matt! If it's any interest to you I had a friend who also got her results and found her maths result to be less than she expected too, and she has a feeling this is because of a lot of cheating taking place this year and messing with the boundaries. However, that being said, a C is not a bad mark at all and you should be very proud! Plus I'm so glad for you that all your lectures are face to face because being fully online was not enjoyable at all. Best of luck in uni!
 
You've achieved an A* A Level grade @Matt N and you're dwelling on the C you got (in maths no less)? You're clearly academically very gifted, where's the usual over optimism mate? Not being one of the educated classes myself (I left school at 16 having failed everything) I could only dream of such a thing.

Trust me, you'll forget your GCSE and A Level results when you're older. You've already got a University place so there's nothing else you need to worry about. Secondary education is only a key to A levels, A levels are only a key to uni. Employers care about your degree, nothing else.
