Blackpool Central Redevelopment

I've seen today blackpool council have announced there'll be an official announcement of what's planned for the site of the old Blackpool Central Station this Friday. This follows them signing contracts at IAAPA in 2017

It's certainly a fantastic area not too far from all the major Blackpool attractions and with being undercover should allow them to draw in visitors twelve months a year.

This has been swirling for a long time. Lots of speculation. I know BPB have voiced their concerns, as they do over most new competition.

Having said that, I can’t see the Council developing something in direct competition with Pleasure Beach. It’s not in their interests to see BPB close and they’re all too aware that the park are not in the strongest financial position.

It does beg the question of what it could be. I’m hoping not Merlin related. Not because of their operational record (I actually think they run the Blackpool Cluster not too badly), but rather it would be good to see a different type of attraction. Water park is out because of Sandcastle.

It could perhaps be some type of experience attraction akin to Bear Grylls?

Can see it likely being a cluster of different attractions, certainly intrigued though as the council are certainly hyping it up on social media this week.

Will be interesting to see if it actually happens this time, we've been this close with all the hype so many times about Central station/car park over the last decade or so.

The site is big enough to house a complete resort, like something from Vegas but without the Casino.

A mixture of leisure uses with a hotel seems like the obvious choice.

I would like to see something akin to that big indoor forest they have at Wildlands in Emmen. Has a little boat ride/climbing course/animals in it. Looks stunning. Something a little different. Sort of an Eden project/water park but without the choas.

I wouldn't be disappointed with a new water park though tbh. Something like an indoor Siam Park. Last time i went to Sandcastle, i thought it was poor. Overcrowed and not enough water for me. It reminded me of this...

Local radio seems to think this is actually going to happen.
Indoor, first in the nation leisure attraction.
Please don't make it a convention centre/hotel/arena with a retractable roof!
Britain's only indoor year round theme park would do me.
Never managed to get to metroland, but something in that line please.

Well the council are already building a new convention centre as part of the winter gardens complex so it's not going to be another one.

Can't believe there isn't already an indoor theme park in this country, you'd have 100% of the market for 4 months each season.

As much as I hate to say it, a Merlin investment, potentially allowing the development to come forward on to the promenade would be awesome.

Looks like Coral Island with a few bells and whistles, and likely a poor Soarin' imitation thrown in in place of the parrot flyer.
