Big One is ‘off’ today. Not sure what that means. Off form? Gone off? Off fishing? Oh, it’s shut. On a still, calm early Autumn day with no reason given.

Newest ride Icon on one train with queue to Big One end of station whilst two trains sit behind a wall doing the square root. Poor stuff

"Summer season is over and we can't be arsed" ..... is the probable reason.

Yes. Not even hiding behind the ‘closed for maintenance’ excuse. Just shut. Talking of hiding, I cannot see Wild Mouse. Where can it be?

“Ladies and Gentleman, the spectacular dancing water show is about to begin.” Oh balls. Does it have to? Not the same at FY4 without Mousey

Big ones having track maintenance while it’s quiet

Because the season pass holders and those who like to visit off peak don’t matter. I understand it in a way, less people to complain when a big ride’s shut, I’ve just had atrocious luck with the ride for a couple of seasons now, to the point where I’m almost expecting it to be closed when I visit. Disappointing stuff. I left early and went to Velvet Coaster with Rob & Craig instead.

Haven’t managed a ride on big one since start of last season and I’m a season pass holder. Visit reasonably regularly but the bloody thing is either shut or queue is horrendous

Attended the press event for
Journey to Hell Vampire Beach tonite
Only have us a run through pasaje de terror.
Nothing else to show yet so just telling us what they are going to do.
Scare Mazes, one in the tunnels beneath and a ride on Icon but with something difference

All for £29

Why do a press event if there’s nothing to show?

Where’s the scaremazes going?

I think the most disappointing thing about Big One being down from a customer service point of view is that they didn't see fit to add a second train on Icon.

This is a commonly occurring issue at Pleasure Beach, they don't seem very good at reacting to queue lengths and ride closures on the day and adjusting capacity accordingly even though plenty of other parks manage it.

Why indeed o_O

The Chinese puzzle maze. The sculpture garden. The tunnels. Are being used for scare zone / maze things.

TPW filmed it all so if it’s not on the channel already it will be soon.

Now if you had turned up with me the week before dippy...all walk on.
Working? Poor excuse...
I only get three or four rides on the Big One a year normally, one train ops and queues down the ramp mean the other rides are more attractive.

A repeat question, as there hasn't been an answer yet.
When did they put the drop in on the River Caves?
Anyone know?
I guess at around the early seventies, but I want a year, and before and after pictures.
Come on dippy and Rick...scour the archives and postcards.

I think early 70s is a good shout but not sure I have anything definitive. I can’t find when they swapped the boats either, the originals are quite distinctive.

Perhaps at the same time as the current are more adept to a lift / drop but I imagine the Helters import from 1905 were not.

Is it possible it happened at the same time as the facade changes from the abstract/post-modern design, to its current guise?

I’d guess also after Watson Rd was bridged over, given the layout.

Definitely after the overpass, probably with the change of frontage.
Can't even find any decent pics of before the ramp.
It was done after the log flume, as that was always the longest queue on the park in summer, so it was added to the River Caves, and then the kids flume was added.

Saw on twitter that it's down as the retracking in its tunnel part has started
My question, if this is true; who would actually manufacture new track for the Big One now? Only asking because Arrow went bankrupt 17 years ago now and I don't think Vekoma would manufacture this type of track any more.

Very good news if true, though; I definitely think I would like the Big One quite a bit more if it were smoother!
