Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

It’s going to be no fun if you make it no fun. Almost everyone now is expecting the park to have multiple closures from the weather, it would be unrealistic to expect everything to be open at this point. Just enjoy what is open and make the most out of a bad situation.
I know @ScottPBE is planning a Rugrats Logflume takeover- it's not like we can get any more wet than it will be anyway.

100 percent day will be what you chose to make of it. We are doing a USA road trip this summer and are expecting at least one day to be rained off so will be good practice for then!

Is there really any point of them evening opening up this weekend with the forecast as dire as it is? It's going to be no fun for anyone.

If they didn't have online bookings then I am guessing they would have already made the decision not to open.

They would probably rather stay open with half the rides shut so they don't have to issue refunds. Can't really blame them for that I suppose.

It's just the luck of the draw with the weather when you open in the middle of February on the North West Coast.

Last year they got lucky with the weather (but they still managed to stuff up opening weekend anyway!)

They'd better have those "Rainy Day Returns" vouchers ready, or will they be invalid as everyone already knows how bad the weather will be?

I think the ideal situation for Pleasure Beach would be to remove the turnstiles, (you can still have security checks) and then have ride tickets and wristbands. That way you can still pay one price for all the rides, tickets if you don't want to ride and it's safer than before because you still have body scanners and bag checks.
And when the park is so rammed on a sunny weekend that you literally can't take a step forward, and a single lap around the park takes two hours, you can see why the entry charge was introduced.

Sounds like an ideal situation for BPB though.

Those people will (mostly) buy something - drinks, food, rides, a few quid in the lobster pots etc. etc. Kids will pester parents to go on this ride, or buy some candy floss.

Cutting out all the casual spend from anyone who hasn't committed to a wristband or an annual pass is probably the reason they are struggling, in my opinion.

Not when 50% of the people on the park are determined to not spend a penny.
That is why the ride queues were half empty, but the paths were chaotic.
The secondary spend wasn't there back then.
Charge the tenner entry, give it back in ride, food or game vouchers.
Don't let people in for nothing, as this is the poor, grim north west.

You can still limit the amount of people into the park, removing the turnstiles wouldn't affect that.

I'm sure that they will open as usual, take your money and then close the park a good few hours than that of which was advertised. Well it wouldn't be the first time.

I'm sure that riding the rides in this weekend wet and windy weather will make up for this years closure of Valhalla, just close your eyes and you won't be able to tell the difference o_O

He wasn't, as anyone who's attended one of our recent BPB meets can confirm.

I've avoided opening day at BPB for a few years now as it's often a bit of a omnishambles but this year looks set to be in another league.

It's the same proceedings every year. Drama the night before in the Velvet Coaster / Popworld, followed by high expectations from the die hards the following day only to be let down by closures and poor operations. Not to mention the weather playing havoc this year.

I'd tip my hat to those of you visiting tomorrow, but I'm much more excited about watching the fallout on social media.

The 1980s ones aren't as cool as the 1970s ones I've been posting recently, but still quite sweet in a retro way.
