Number pulled out of thin air or not, the WiFi is shocking :p

And you’d think they’d pull a better figure out than that too ha. It just seems so backwards to produce systems without the ability to run them efficiently

To be honest thinking back I think I've gave up on trying to use the WiFi before.

A similar accident occurred on the Water Chute at Porthcawl in 1994. A nine year old boy sadly died.
 
According to the pleasure beach website, they are now planning on opening till 10pm on...

18th July
25th July
1st August
8th August
29th August
26th September
24th October
31st October

So they have added 2 more during the summer holidays to replace the 2 that have been lost.

Well I take my hat off to them. I bet they're going to be one of very few UK parks that are powering on and still offering late openings and events this year.

Outside of the Halloween season they were one of the only parks offering late closing anyway.

It was 8pm last year on some summer weekends but they were scrapped this year even before lockdown, so it wasn’t a Covid related decision. Latest close outside Fright Nights is 6pm.

There was one year when it was 10:00pm though wasn't it? It might be going back a few.

Thorpe have tried several times to make late closing a thing but it always just seems to end up with rides being walk-on after 7pm from what I've read. Unfortunately there just doesn't seem to be the demand, I think a majority of people want to get home for dinner unless there is a reason to stay late (scare mazes, night rides or fireworks). Even at Disneyworld the Animal Kingdom park was empty after 7pm without a night show to keep people there.
Blackpool is a bit different as people stay close-by I guess, but are they really that busy into the evening?
 
Yeah I think they branded it as the Summer Nights event.

Good to see Pleasure Beach adding some more late dates though. If nothing else hopefully it’ll help make things more manageable with any restrictions in place, with more people arriving spread across the day and more time to get around the rides with reduced throughputs.
 
Late closings don’t really fit the British theme park going mentality sadly.

People in the U.K. expect theme parks, including seaside amusement parks, to be open at 10am. This point is proven by the massive queues outside BPB on days when the park opens at 11am.

As mentioned, people will stay later if there’s an actual event such as fireworks and these have more appeal at parks near holiday areas, such as BPB, Oakwood etc, but the reality is that more people in the U.K. prefer to visit in the day time.

I think even outside of the UK without fireworks there isn't much demand for evenings at theme parks, although seaside parks are different. I really don't think even Disney would pack out all their parks without the nighttime shows.

Great Yarmouth opens till 10pm every Wednesday in the summer. And 9pm on every other night during the summer.

I think most seaside parks open till at least 9pm during the summer season (well pre covid they did)

It usually stays reasonable busy if the fireworks are on (and the weather is favourable), but on 10 till 10 days then the first hour and the last hour are definitely quieter (although that could be said on any day).

In my experience the park is not particularly busy in the first hour. That may be partly down to the slow system of getting in, but if its a nice day then many people are still arriving well into the afternoon.

Edit: I think the reason that so many people try to get there for opening on an 11 o'clock start is simply because on those days the park will usually shut at 5pm, so people want to get their money's worth.

Regarding the 10 till 10 days, I cannot think of a good reason why a park that is essentially running a pay one price theme park entry model would want to open for 12 hours in a day ? I would much prefer to see them open 12noon to 9pm or 10pm on a more regular basis at peak times. There are plenty of punters in Blackpool that would like to come to the park in the evening when its summer season or loominations.
