Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

Would've thought all work would have been paused on Valhalla during the pandemic as they look to cut costs but who knows. Hopefully it's not been pushed back another year.

They best not pull a Loggers Leap on us :astonished:

Wild mouse has been operating again on Saturdays, but it just isn't the same after making all those changes. There is no air time at all since they removed the track.

I appreciate the addition of German sausages and beer to the ride but the overall retheming and renaming to "The Hub" just doesn't really work, especially when it comes at the expense of all those those 90 degree turns.

The only way to appreciate some of the rides original features is to sit with your chair directly adjacent to the wall then make a sudden leap out of it while simultaneously throwing yourself at right angles into the wall. This is where the new beer feature comes in very handy!

Well lock down was good for something.

Finally finished off my Blackpool Pleasure Beach Board Game.

And it is actually not a bad game to play :)

Shame I can't really sell it or I reckon the pleasure beach will be after me.

Who's coming round for a game ?

You'll have to arrange a Dragon Den's type meeting with Mandy and the crew to pitch your Board Game for them to produce and sell :D

@shakey the game looks awesome. Even better than the Summer sneak preview I had. I made a poor man’s BPB board game about 30 years ago. On the back of a cereal box with felt tip drawn board & coaster pics.

You had to buy A/B/C/D ride tickets then go on said rides. Your looks a lot more exciting (and professional). Put me down for one, but I want it numbered and signed by your good self!

I hope the forfeits include “Big One front seats stolen from under your nose by speedy passers, move back 3 spaces”

Next up should be a heritage nostalgia version with rides that are no longer there

The basic objective is to go on rides to earn Funshines, which you then use to buy food, merchandise and photos. Once you have purchased the required number of merchandise items and photos you can go to the exit shop to claim the golden Noahs Ark to win the game.

There are more elements to the game but that is the basic principle.

Had my first game tonight and it seemed to work very well. I will have to play it a few times to see if the rules need tweaking a bit but overall I am very happy with it.

As far as selling it goes, i don't really think that's going to be possible (not publicly anyway) due to all sorts of copyright and trade mark issues.

I suppose I could create a version based on an imaginary theme park but I don't think that will have much of an appeal.

Freezing in Blackpool today, so cold even the brass monkey has gone inside. Still too soon to retire the shorts for Winter though. Free beer & seafood for the over 40s on Madame Crevettes balcony
 
Blackpool have said during late night riding queues will now close easier than 10pm so they are clear following government guidelines.

To be fair Dave, if you are going to offer free beer at Crevettes then you should at least go in there at some point. You didn't go anywhere near it today! - It must be your Yorkshire roots :)

Wow, that looks incredibly professional. I literally have no idea how you even begin making something like that. Do you have some kind of special printer?

I love board games and that looks really interesting. If you walk into a standard toy shop (rather than a specialist board game shop), it's basically lots of versions of Monopoly and Cluedo. It sounds like you've come up with something really innovative.

I used https://www.boardgamesmaker.com/
You just need some image editing software (paint.net is free and similar to photoshop) and a lot of time & patience :). Upload the files and they do all the rest. It took me several months from start to finish but I really enjoyed doing it. I have always enjoyed inventing games for as long as I can remember, so being able to create something and have it professionally made was very rewarding. It isn't cheap if you only buy a single copy (cost me nearly £100 including postage), but I have got a lot of pleasure out of it so it was well worth the investment.

As for the game itself, after playing several times I am pretty pleased with the overall game play. There are some bits that can be improved upon so I will no doubt be making a few adjustments and then re-ordering.

It could be changed to work with any theme park, so I may even do an Alton Towers version at some point.
 
Thank you for sharing that Shakey! I had a Make Your Own Monopoly set years ago, but your game's a different level. It looks like it's been a real labour of love. From a game play perspective, what's the balance of skill vs luck like?
