Cedar Point: General Discussion

Time for a new Cedar Point topic I think. :)

That ever-fruitful source Screamscape brings us a tantalising rumour...

2014 / 2015 - Dark Ride - Rumor - (6/6/13) I don’t know if we’re looking at a possible 2014 or 2015 project, but rumor has it that Ouimet has tasked the staff to get a killer dark ride into the park as soon as possible. So far we know Ouimet, true to his Disney background, is taking a serious look at adding dark rides where possible to a number of the Cedar Fair parks. We’ve already seen the first fruit of this effort with the newly refurbished Timber Mountain Log Ride that just reopened at Knott’s Berry Farm and it looks beautiful!
If this is a taste of what we can expect to see from Cedar Fair’s future dark ride efforts under Ouimet’s leadership, then there are good times ahead. Stay tuned!

Seems a very bold move for a park that are quite famous for being the quintessential 'amusement park', and who have so far shunned theming and dark rides for their entire history! :)

How often do Cedar build major rides? $30m just spent on a massive new coaster and possibly a major dark ride the year after?!

Screamscape have heard that the park are considering putting this dark ride inside the 107 year old Coliseum building:

The ground floor is just an arcade, whereas the upper floor is home to a ballroom:

Hopefully it won't be in the ballroom (apart from the seating :p ) as it'd be a shame for the building's original purpose to be removed completely (though at least the ballroom itself doesn't look up to much if it does get removed). I'm not opposed to the arcade completely as there are some quirky old machines and games in there, but they could easily be housed somewhere else.

I really enjoyed watching that, it provided a really good insight into the ride. I do love how they go about coasters in the USA as well.

:)

Or Europe.

It's just our isle that doesn't bother!

I like the part where they made sure to be ahead of schedule in case they lost construction time from severe weather.

2014 - Dark Ride - Rumor - (8/19/13) Backing up the rumors of a new Dark Ride coming to Cedar Point in 2014 were comments made during the Cedar Fair conference call. While not mentioning Cedar Point as the location, it was mentioned that an “innovating interactive dark ride” was in development for the chain that they expect will set new standards in the industry.

Seems unlikely that CP are going to "set new standards" with their first ever dark ride, compared to say, Universal...

2014 - Dark Ride - Rumor - (8/21/13) Is Cedar Point getting a new dark ride for 2014? While earlier rumors seemed to suggest that it may be so, the latest whispers coming in from the four corners suggest that a secondary Cedar Fair park may try out the dark ride concept first. If true, what else could The Point have in the works for 2014?

I love the idea that Cedar Fair need to "try out" the utterly novel and groundbreaking concept of a dark ride.

Unfortunately named family!

But really, they installed a new B&M last year, what did you expect? These improvements look great - it's always good to see a park making infrastructure changes to make the park a more pleasant place to be, and adding theming to rides which had none (Froghopper). From what I've heard from AstroDan, the renovation of Hotel Breakers is much needed.

Is that Disk-O a new model from Zamperla? :)

Soar, spin and fly with new family fun next summer!

2014/2015 - Hotel Breakers Refurbishment - Confirmed - (12/5/13) Cedar Point has begun this winter’s renovation work at the Hotel Breakers, part of a 3 year, $60 million plan to renovate the historic park hotel. The first half of the project, which has just begun, will see the exterior of the hotel repaired and replaced, including adding a new roof and all new paint. Next winter the restoration work will move indoors.

Undoubtedly good news for this major world park! Those on here who visited a few months ago said it was horribly dated and a massive disappointment, let's hope they turn it into a world-class hotel for a world-class park. :)

Park News - (2/7/14) CPFansite has made an interesting find this week… a hit on the FAA website says that Cedar Point is seeking approval to install a 236 foot tall slingshot ride to be installed near Gemini. I’m not sure if they are hoping to have this ready for the 2014 season or just planning ahead for 2015.

Pay extra, presumably?

When you can be shot nearly twice the height into the sky for free on TTD, why would you pay for this? :/

This will presumably be in the Challenge Park, which is outside Cedar Point itself - it's near Gemini, so would fit the description. The area is currently home to several p2p attractions, including a Booster, Skycoaster and Go-Karts.

Park News - (2/21/14) Cedar Point announced the details of a new extra additions coming to the park for the 2014 season. In addition to the previously announced Gemini Midway / Camp Snoopy projects, the park has also confirmed that they will add a new 360 foot tall SlingShot upcharge ride near Gemini. I’m not sure what the record is, but if a 360 foot tall SlingShot isn’t it, it has to be damn close. The cost to ride has not been determined at this time, but the ride will be manufactured by Funtime in Austria.
Other improvements coming to the park include a full-service Starbucks (taking over the former Donut Time), as well as an Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon in Challenge Park. Chickie’s & Pete’s Sport Bar was also confirmed and will take over the former Game Day Grille. Over on the Gemini Midway look for a new Coca-Cola Freestyle station and a new Yogurt Plus location near the new Pipe Scream.

Worth reading the blog if you like the park. A 360ft slingshot sounds bloody terrifying, and maybe actually worth paying for!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Figured it's better than starting a new one. Just wondering if anyone knows, or knows of where I can find out what the attendance figures usually are at the end of the open season. I'm looking to go on september 1st and am debating on if I should buy fast track passes for that day. Any halp would be appreciated.
