Chessington Accident

in theory it is possible for water to cause enough drag to slow a ride car enough for it to stop. but how much and if it possible for that amount to accumulate in the tunnel is open to debate. I think it is something to ask John Wardley at the next Q&A.

I think if it had happened it would certainly have received alot of discussion across the alton forums and probably other forums too.

I just find it abit difficult to believe one unconfirmed source - and I think this is probably what Satch is suggesting too.

Oblivion has never stalled in the tunnel. Discussion over.

I agree. Oblivion travels far to quickly to stall for a start and a build up of water would have to be substantial to slow it so much. They wouldn't be able to operate it in the rain if this was such an issue.

If it did happen it would take a team of cranes to winch the car back up the curve and onto the brake run. This is a massive operation that requires specialist equipment and a large area of park to be closed off for the several hour painstaking operation to be carried out. - We would have head about it if that was the case!

Same cant be said for shock wave at Drayton manor, which has at least 3 times been stuck between the 3rd and 4th inversions which is how I know how painful an operation it is. I worked there at the time of it happening on 2 occasions, never with passengers I might add.

I can believe Shockwave, but oblivion? Im finding a bit harder... you only have to look at the speed the train comes out the hole, that along with the sheer size of the trains, would require a hell of a lot of force to slow them down enough to stall.

Of course it is possible, but i believe, unlikely.

Please can we get back onto the topic of Chessington guys, we seem to be wandering off topic by quite some distance in the last few posts :)
