Chessington World of Adventures Resort

But WHAT? ;)
I'd like to see a nice family launch coaster at Chessington; maybe something from Intamin like Juvelen at Djurs Sommerland, or the new Harry Potter ride currently under construction at IOA on a smaller scale? Or maybe something from Mack, like Manta at SeaWorld San Diego or Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood Studios, if they wanted a more child-orientated attraction? I reckon there's a high chance we could see something like that, though, as Chessington's master plan in 2016 highlighted a jungle themed family coaster that looked akin to Juvelen.

Failing that, maybe a wooden coaster like Wicker Man? Or the pirate themed water coaster that was also highlighted in the master plan?

I personally reckon we'll see something new coaster-wise within the next 5 years, though. As for when, my personal guess is 2021, and as for where, I'd guess either the Toadie's Crazy Cars area or the lawn by Dragon's Fury, as I seem to remember those both being identified as development areas in the master plan.
P.S. Sorry for long post.

Ten years ago I would have told you that what Chessington needs is a ground hugging Intamin Blitz: Running through trenches to increase the sensation of speed, while acting as a noise barrier. Multiple rolling launches to a moderate speed, concentrating on positive G and direction changes rather than air time or inversions. Nothing too insane, but maybe a single hidden barrel roll as a finale.

Five years ago I'd have said the same, but updated to a Mack Mega.

These days? What Chessington needs these days is the buildings bulldozed, the rides melted down for scrap, the animals set free, the staff committed to institutions, and the very earth it once sat on scorched and salted.
Then surround the remaining wasteland with electrified barbed wire, and a sign every hundred feet that reads;
"Site of one of the worst UK tragedies outside of wartime. We must never allow this to happen again."

I take it by that your going for the next apocalyptic theme then

I thought Chessington was supposed to be highly acclaimed, though?

I personally think we will see some sort of roller coaster in 2021, as Chessie's last high investment was Gruffalo in 2017 and Merlin operates by a 4 year investment cycle in its RTPs.

Chessington has some nice things like dragon's fury and vampire) but it's simply Merlin's worst park. Gruffalo should use a different ride system where boats don't spin and you can actually see what is going on story wise. Tiger Rock is a mess with black enclosures everywhere. Tomb Blaster roof and walls are so easily exposed on the ride. I love Zufari but the walk across is awful. Chessington just isn't magical

I've often said that too and it being because they own it, so there is no minimum upkeep requirements unlike the other sites where they must maintain them to a certain standard, they can just let Chessington rot away and only do upkeep whenever HSE demand it rather than to the freeholder requirements.

Well nobody saw that coming

Chessington was my absolute favourite park for many years, throughout my childhood it was enormous fun and very original.

It is now a commercialised patronising mess, with all charm either lost through neglect or forcibly removed. It's probably the UK park that has fallen the most.

What remains of its old attractions are an embarassment to what they used to be. The new ones are average at best, with enjoyable moments but overall very lazy.

Everything is hyped as if it's the most incredible family experience you will ever have, but Chessington has become a very cynically corporate and generic park.

I visited Chessington on Sunday with a few others on here and wanted to post a few observations.

Firstly their halloween event was pretty good with some decent theming around the park and a fun live 20 minute show at their outdoor theatre. The free scare maze for families was fine and Creepy Caves which is a small upcharge was very good! Different to the mazes at Towers but it worked well and I am still not sure if the actor at the start of the maze was acting or being serious; either way she was brilliant.

Tiger Rock is fine but it would have been better had they been able to spend more money. The drop looks nice from a front on angle but it still looks awful from other angles.

Throughputs around the park remain dire. Since when was Tomb Blaster so badly operated? 3 cars on each ride vehicle came in to the station already loaded with fastrack and/or RAP guests, and a couple of the ride vehicles had a car out of action for technical reason. So the throughput of the main queue was over 50% less than what it should have been. This coupled with the fact that it seemed like the staff wanted to be anywhere but there leading to extremely slow checks meant the short queue moved painfully slowly. Every other car on Rattlesnake was also reserved for RAP which meant another queue that should have been 5-10 minutes at tops taking much longer.

Smokehouse was fantastic as usual but they could do with finding a way to keep the sides hotter.

And what is with the Johnny English film adverts on all of the screens around the park? Reminded me of being at a Six Flags park!

Thankfully the park was not too busy so we were able to have an enjoyable day.

:)

Yes, I'm sure we all remember the outdoor TVs that they installed about 10 years ago which packed up after about 3 months... well, they're back!

If you're not going to pay for Fast Track you can't expect them to just leave you in peace to queue for two hours. Of course they're going to try and flog you some head lice cream while you're waiting.

I hope whichever manager thought of adding the TVs get a pin badge for making every pound, dollar or euro count. I'm sure they're wearing it with pride.

It does seem someone in the park came to the wrong conclusion after they were presumably innundated with complaints about how bad the queues are.

It's the wrong solution to a problem of their own making. If Vampire still ran 3 trains they'd be half way there. The likes of Rattlesnake never used to get a queue of more than about 20 minutes - it's the same physical length now but moves at 1/3 of the speed as the operations are simply woeful. It's the same story on Tomb Blaster, Zufari and many others. Enormous queues that hardly move for mediocre rides.
