Chessington World of Adventures Resort

"Subject to usual availability" may not be a massive improvement!

I'm glad this is sorted anyway, it was starting to look like a total PR nightmare for the park and the Merlin group. Should never have got to this point.

I'm sure they are able to join a union if they wish
Or to unionise and make one be recognised if 50% of staff join.

Edit to add
Currently Unite only represents the engineers, but if enough staff from other areas also joined then yes they would have same power. https://www.unitetheunion.org/news-...cognition-at-chessington-world-of-adventures/
The problem often is, with this style of (often) temporary employment, people who join the union tend to be the people who are not welcomed back the following year...
For entirely different reasons than their union membership obviously...as that would be illegal.

That is very poor considering the current push in society to be more environmentally conscious. Surely it costs more to keep buying in disposable plates than it does to wash and reuse proper plates. It’s not great from a guest perspective either, hardly a premium experience dining off paper plates, it might be ok for quick service but not for a sit down experience. Just shows how Aramark operate. High prices and cut corners left and right

Really happy for the engineering staff, great news that they have managed to come to an agreement they’re happy with. I hope engineering staff at other merlin parks are taking note.

The cost and issue is possibly needing a kitchen porter to do the washing, whereas the servers can just bin paper plates. I expect they are trying to pay peanuts and are struggling to recruit kitchen porters.

Although I agree it is terrible from a guest perspective.

It’s cheaper.

They wouldn’t have changed to paper if it wasn’t.
Possibly the dishwashers have failed. Aramark run my work canteens and regularly resort to paper plates as the dishwashers break and they can’t/won’t fix them.

Edit: I don’t work in a prison, (honest) and I don’t eat in the canteen any more as it’s so expensive so don’t know re current plate situation

*checks prices* - £17.50 to eat at Pizza Pasta at Chessington these days and they have removed the regular plates and replaced them with paper ones.

Not only a quality downgrade but as pizza covered paper/card can’t be recycled it will all end up in the bin. What an absolutely ridiculous situation.

That is really appalling, both from a guest experience and an environmental perspective. Hope it's temporary.

Maybe the washers up are also on strike?

If it is Jumanji i would of thought there would be 3 for all of the rides. But i guess it disproves your theory of sub terra may 5th, unless something does happen in 2026 😂
