Chessington World of Adventures Resort

Bit late to the party, so then, Minecraft is a likely candidate. Well, not one for IP's personally but what do I know?

As long as it's not going to look like that abomination of movie that's coming out complete with those damn creepy sheep that make Flume Duck look nice then I'm ok with it...honestly I'm suprised few have even brought up if this Minecraft area will be based more of the film than game.

I suspect it will be the game. The film is shaping up to be a massive bomb so I hope they stear well clear of it. It's the game kids love not the film.

Unless they pull out, it's definitely Minecraft. Wild Asia was always the space they were looking at doing it in. Room for expansion as the years go on. Plus mentions interactive dining elements. Very video game like. Mojang were spotted onsite looking around.
The imagery in the survey showed Minecraft Universe behind Wild Asia and Land of The Tiger, so this could be phase 1, with an expansion into that area later down the line. Maybe even incorporating Tiger Rock into it at some point if the Land is popular enough.

I did see a comment somewhere about Universal (US) possibly getting Minecraft rights, not sure how that would impact Merlin here if UK Universal goes ahead?
Merlin will have already secured the IP rights, for use in theme parks, for Minecraft from Microsoft. The level of information, detail and trademark use present in the consumer research wouldn't be permitted otherwise.

I quite liked wild Asia. It was quaint, but very well done. But for the Minecraft themed area, it’s like… yeah. Whatever. I have a younger cousin who is going to absolutely love this, so if he likes it a lot it was probably worth it.

Scorpion being removed? Hell yeah. I think a more interactive kids area suits the park great.

Forbidden kingdom sort-out when though?

Another point towards Minecraft …

All of the planting and paths is set at right angles, very Minecraft

Also, early speculation time, the box on the roof, could that be to accommodate a spike similar to the one found on Uncharted ?
It lines up nicely with the outdoor section, so yes it is very likely to be a swing launch section, up the spike then into the outdoor section. So am guessing Intamin Multi-Dimension coaster.

if it is minecraft, I wonder what the indoor ride and disco will be themed as.

I also wonder what the indoor ride is as it looks large, but not large enough to house a ride like the curse, I wonder if it could be a mad house as I am trying to think of other indoor themed flats

Meanwhile the UKs number one theme park gets a re-tracked coaster, an identical replacement flat 4 years too late and a still broken dark ride that or may not be an improvement.

Let’s hope they apply this same logic to Dark Forest and Walliams soon!

Come on now be fair. If you are going to slate a park, atleast slate it on a fair footing. Alton Towers have actually got what you mentioned, on the ground and open to guests or well under construction. Chessington do not have any of this right now, it's nothing more than a plan on a computer. Horizon would be a fair comparison to this.

In the same time frame that Towers worked on all of the attractions you have mentioned, all of which come from top tier and very reputable ride manufacturers, Chessington have been busy maxing out their credit line with probably one of the worst flat ride manufactures outside of China. They did also build a B&M, I will give them that, but it's nothing special and quite crap in the grand scheme of things.

The more promising thing from this for me, is that this indicates that Merlin are committed to the UK and do want to invest heavily. Comments from the CEO not too long ago indicated he was trying to either call the bluff of the government or genuinely was not interested in large investments into the UK. This contradicts that statement, so is a positive sign for sure.

Does anyone remember what the turnaround time was from the Jumanji plans reveal to opening?

Is a Spring 2026 opening realistic?
The first public consultation was in May 2021, Theme Park Guide has a good archived record of the proposal, planning and construction process.
Project Amazon was completed in 2023, so two years after the public consultation. If they get their act together, a 2026 opening is possible, but could also be 2027.

I feel like Jumanji had much more earthworks do though so hopefully this is largely doing a lift and shift of Kobra and knocking down a few tatty buildings, at the very least ground clearance shouldn't take long.

Watch it get knotted up in the local council's planning department like the water park has and not get approved for years.

On the website it says planning goes in October. However glamping is still available til Sept 25. So unless they start building without the glamping land (unlikely?) I can't see build will start til next October maybe with a 2027 opening...?

Unless they of course decide to end glamping bookings early and not offer them next year. Just because they have planning until Sept 25 for glamping doesn't mean they have to use it.

Do indoor attractions typically have a faster construction time as work is more weather resistant once the buildings are up or does it not work like that?

Indeed they do...you know you will not lose any construction days to the weather.
Winter frost rain and ice is not a factor.
Big lumps can be dropped in by crane through a bit of the roof in a few hours with modern construction methods.

Minecraft as an ip meh. Its an old game only diehards still play it and in 3 or 4 yrs time will be even less relevent.

The actually plan on attractions looks good just not the ip
