Chessington World of Adventures Resort

It'll be interesting to see how many people actually turn up for these new areas if they have visited this year.

An overwhelmingly negative experience of visiting half a park, packed to the rafters, filled with adverts of exciting things to come back for if I part with another couple of hundred quid would absolutely not tempt me back. In fact I'd be fuming.

I still think that they're trying to do too much at once, and not necessarily in the right areas. Runaway Train and Kobra are significant capacity losses.

The mine train had already been closed for several years and Kobra had a poor throughput though obviously losing the trio of rides in Wild Asia is a blow to capacity.

Why are you assuming people would have an overwhelmingly negative experience? The majority of attractions remain open. Personally I think people tend to find ongoing construction projects exciting and a reason to return. Certainly on our last visit plenty of children were salivating at the paw patrol boardings so just wait till Minecraft is officially announced.

I did hear that the park has reduced capacity for this year to counter the loss of rides and whilst I don’t have an official source we haven’t seen any horrendous queue days yet.

The notion that people subsequently won’t come to two new themed areas based on significant IP due to some current advertised ride closures is something I strongly disagree with.

I will await the summer months to see the full impact. The school holiday season has always been hell on earth at Chessie, this year will be even worse.

I would take any claims of a capacity reduction with a pinch of salt, but we'll see.

I'm thinking that the loss of capacity may have been counteracted by the opening of Jumanji and Shipwreck Coast which the capacity now would be similar to 2021?

I loved Bubbleworks and my son loves Gruffalo so they're both winners for me. Also holds a special place as it was his first proper theme park ride.

It's a very good realisation of the IP imo albeit obviously not Disney etc standards. One of the very few IP based dark rides in the UK too which is almost always the best use of IP in theme parks. Mandrill is great but the Jumanji theming is almost redundant (which is perhaps deliberate for future proofing).

Tomb Blaster looked excellent today only one effect not in operation the Boulder hoping its repaired at some point.

Also in the same area Croc Drop is spinning once again

I think we'll see Legoland Windsor put a large covered attraction(s) on Viking River Splash and Chessington will build a few more indoor attractions to bolster their options

I imagine in the next 5 years or so most of the animals will have been relocated so there are several large plots for potential expansion.

Chessington makes the most sense location wise for a 365 day park for Merlin. The huge IPs they have secured will generate interest all year round as well as the zoo, accommodation and potentially water park in the future. What they need to get right is winter maintenance. A few more indoor attractions will obviously help and looking at the minecraft world this seems to be their intentions. Even if they could operate with about 60% of rides open over winter there would be enough to make it worth a day out.
