Chessington World of Adventures Resort

Took me longer to pluck up the courage to go on the Black Hole despite going on the Beast a year or two prior.

The mystery of not knowing what the ride actually is can sometimes be more intimidating to kids.
Aye, being a non soundproof tent with every scream emitting from the tent only added to the fear factor of adding to the mystery of what was in there.

Honestly, pre Internet days for theme parks were magical as there was always that mystery and maybe that's why many lament the magic being gone at Towers as everyone seems to know what's going on, it's exactly like knowing the 'business' of wrestling before the Internet too.

Visited over the weekend and the new shows were on, one in Adventure Point and one on the Mane Stage. Both shows are OK, seen better but also seen worse. Completely new singers and dancers, which is a shame as we got to know some of the previous ones quite well as we watched the shows a lot (our boy really likes to watch them). One noticeable thing was that it was the same people doing both shows whereas previously there would be different people for each of the shows - a cost saving I suppose.

One other massive change that we noticed is that Gruffalo Crumble effect is working again on the Gruffalo ride! :tearsofjoy: I am not even sure how long that hasn't been working for.

This is really odd, and not a good sign… Thorpe Park are mustering up 7pm closes for the entire summer, and even Alton Towers, historically the poorest park in the chain in terms of opening times, is mustering up 6pm closes now and 7pm later in August!

Do you think it has something to do with the younger target audience? Are Merlin deeming that young families don’t want to stay as late?

I think it's the fact that about a third of the park is currently inaccessible and the potential attraction offering is presently lacking, negating the need for long hours. All of this will be a tad different by 2027, hopefully the longer hours will be restored then too.

That doesn’t explain why Legoland is doing the same, though.

It seems odd that both parks are shutting so early when Thorpe and Alton have relatively good summer hours (or at very least, stronger than in the last few years in Alton’s case).

We did Chessington yesterday reluctantly gave Merlin my money, wish I didn’t tbh but it was obvious 5pm wasn’t enough,

7h opening and most rides on 1h queues ok not bad by the time you factor in lunch, walking from a-b-c, toilet stops etc your basically looking at 4-5 rides.

Toomblaster (opened for 2h in morning and like 20 mins in afternoon before breaking again, Jungle Rangers, Elmer’s flying elephants, croc drop were basically closed all day on top of no wild Asia/ Mexicana . That’s without any small closures popping up here and there.

There was a distinct lack of tech services on site to deal with any of the issues, the Tomb blaster team said they had been waiting an hour for someone to show up at one point, and all the closed rides looked to have no activity on them,

We brought our kids 2 hotdogs, fries and small drink meals from adventure point , £33 WTF

Any park you will struggle to do everything in one day
I managed to do everything in one day at Phantasialand. With rerides on FLY, Taron and Colorado Adventure.

I also did everything at Oakwood multiple times in about 4 hours.

The UK has only one legitimately "more than one day" park and that's Alton Towers. Less to do with the number of attractions and more the distances between them.
