Death to "The General Public"

To me, a lanyard just reminds me of being at work šŸ¤£ It's just another thing to carry that I don't need as it's digital šŸ¤”
Ah, but kids these days have been conditioned to constantly wear their ID on a lanyard for all to see, since the day they started school. (Even though any workplace with a brain will tell you to remove your lanyard the second you leave the site for security reasons.)
... Which is a whole other debate I won't derail this thread with.

Or if you are involved with large, powerful machines with moving parts. Like say a theme park maybe?

Canada's Wonderland makes you remove anything round your neck before going on any ride. I can only assume there must have been an incident involving a full length 4th Doctor scarf at some point?

It definitely seems to be a trend of the last decade or so. Wearing lanyards for the hell of it in various settings. I get you need a card and stuff to tap/swipe in and out of places, use in vending machines etc, and prove ID. But how did we cope beforehand?

I have to wear something identifying me all day at work, and I despise it. Just makes confrontations with people more personal.

Could sort of understand it in the VIP MAP days as you used your pass to use fast pass line etc so having it on a lanyard would reduce wallet faff.

Though speaking of wallet faff aren't younger generations not bothering with wallets, so provided it's secured under your t shirt/jumper/coat when riding its possible on a lanyard round your neck is the safest place to keep it.

My dislike for both of these things is, naturally, dwarfed by my total disdain for the existence of MAP branded clothing. To me, a merlin pass is just a tool or a means to an end. I don't see it as something someone should feel any passion about, loyalty towards or pride in owning that would warrant displaying in public in that manner.
A Gold Europa-Park Resort Pass however....

I'm not a fan of wearing lanyards with passes attached, and it is not something I would ever do myself. I actually think Merlin should stop sending them out with lanyards and card holders etc., as it is just a huge waste. Mine, and I am sure many others, go straight in the bin within seconds of being opened, so just end up in landfill. How sustainable! Maybe they should give you the option at the point of purchase to say whether or not you would like the pack being sent out?

I think this whole lanyard perception started with the VIP passes and there was absolutely an entitlement associated with them; bringing those in was a huge mistake and they found that out pretty quickly. I no longer follow the MAP pages on social media as they used to drive me mad, so cannot comment on their content these days, however back when I did they were nothing like the discussion found on this forum.
