Disneyland Paris: General Discussion

Oh no, allow me to shed a tear for the international powerhouse that specialises in ruining the things you loved as a child.

But they've done a live action 101 Dalmatians already.

There's probably potential to use up some land in Frontierland and bin Autopia for something else. The park seems to be a bit lacking in expansion space outside the current boundary though. So probably get 4/5 attractions in with minimal fuss.

However, all the focus is on fixing Studios. And even that is taking forever. Frozen is meant to be next year, with Lion King after that. But then what?

So that’s where Monkey Swinger is off to! 😉

Im struggling to get excited for this considering I didn’t think Tianas was very good. It would be cool to have be prepared while going up the lift hill, but they didn’t have friends from the other side on Tianas I’m running out of hope. They are building a villains land though so.. who knows?

Although, I really hope it is like Splash Mountain where you are just bombarded by animatronics, as in a boat ride you do need a lot to look at as there is no intense movement to compensate with. I found Tianas disappointing because it was so sparse in its figures, there wasn’t too much to look at and the canned repeating Dialoge was just so infuriating. I’d rather have 10 lower tech figures than 1 big one you see for a few seconds.

I may have said this before, but someone pointed out that most high tech modern Disney animatronics just wave their arms around? Like, they’re really really good at it but that is just… it. Stand up and arm flail.

They’ve also posted a ton of other concept shots and construction updates on their socials so looks like this is their Universal response!
I don't think this is their response to Universal in general, as most of these updates (or equivalent attractions) have been in development and known about for longer than even rumours of the Universal plan has been in the public domain.

This social media campaign is, however, clearly their response to the Universal Announcement. They clearly know that Disneyland Paris is currently in the news because of the Universal Announcement, so they are showing off their current projects, working on the principle that when journalists are looking to pad out their stories, DLP might be able to get a splash of publicity for their upcoming additions.

Weirdly I'm actually quite excited by the wave swinger. I don't recall that being included in the plan before, and one of the faults I find with the Adventure World expansion is that it's a huge area with very few new rides. A wave swinger might be a very basic addition but it will add a lot of life to the area around the lake. I'd actually take a few more flats between the major attractions over waiting a long time for a big addition to fill out the empty expansion pads. An additional ride for Frozen and Lion King for example.

It's the 33rd anniversary of DLP today, so the announcements are typical for any announcements that are usually made on this day. I'm thrilled that the rumoured chair swing has been confirmed. UP is a very suitable stylization for it. I'm really liking the very charming fairground/fantasy vibe of Adventure Way. It's great that they're not simply adding E-Tickets, both flats on Adventure Way are very much needed as fillers.

The main problem with this is that construction on the ride starts this autumn - so when visitors step into the new extension next year and turn their heads across the lake, they’re going to quickly lose the immersion of Frozen and the other new bits and see a building site.

Hardly what you want for your park’s make-or-break expansion, is it.

Eh, most of Studios has been construction walls for years now.

Plus there's going to be what, 2/3 glaring spaces for future projects around the lake too.

Whole thing is just weird. But that's what happens when you badly plan a new park.

I don’t think it’s make or break? And if it is, it’s Frozen so they’ve already won.

I’m more concerned with the timeframe. Although if they’re starting this year as you say that bodes well it’ll be open before Universal at least 😂

Probably 3-4 years for the Lion King ride then we thinking?

They truly are a laughable organisation these days. Universal UK will be taking real shape when this opens and you will probably even start to see some of the first pieces of ride hardware being installed.

Is it just me, or anyone else a little bit miffed that they're building a new pixar themed ride, on the other side of the park to the 'world of pixar'? Or just me? :tearsofjoy:

They are also taking one of my favourite Disney films in the modern era and wasting that fabulous IP on a Wave Swinger. 😂

Absolutely embarrassing. UP deserves a dark ride of the highest quality.

Disney are very slow builders (took them like 4 years for Tron, Covid isn't much of an excuse, universal used it to accelerate construction as no one was in the parks)

the thing is it isn't really badly planned, more just done on an extremely tight budget and then never given a big enough budget (untill now) to fix it, as it essentially required tearing out half the park to install decent rides.

studios was a requirement for Disney to build, the French government made Disney sign agreements that they would build 3 parks over like 30 years, (I believe they have been getting delays for the 3rd one now) but they were required to build and open studios by a certain date.

Disney built studios on an extremely tight budget, every cheap ride they could find they threw in there because DLP was such a big disaster (it isn't so much now (although it is still probably disappointing)) as Disney were expecting Florida levels of attendance, but they got like six flags not bad but not enough to off set the amount they spent on it which was a huge amount and it dose show (castle park is amazing, all the original areas are really stunning and what a Disney park should be it is by far my favourite Disney park) as such it has required Disney stripping it back to bear and starting again.

edit: the reason it apparently flopped was because Europeans didn't like how American the park was, I wonder how it would have done if it was built in the UK (as the UK seems to be more accepting of america type places)

I think I’ve heard a weird rumour that construction is so slow so it doesn’t look like they’re spending a lot of money to investors.

I know it’s generally in poor forum-ining to just say things with no source but it feels like common sentiment thrown round a lot

So this confirms that the Star Wars expansion is dead for Paris then, yes?

Anyone understand why? Lion king is an odd choice considering its not a zoo park like Animal Kingdom. I'm so disappointed, I get Galaxy's edge might have been criticised but it doesn't mean there's no hunger for star wars, just for that design. I understand that if you don't include a known destination it won't be as dated as films become old, but apart from the Millennium falcon it didn't really feel Star Warsy, especially the bazaar/shopping bit. Why not build a tatooine? It features in all 3 trilogies.
