Disneyland Paris: General Discussion

2028 would make sense- I know a completely different ride but Monster Inc land/coaster at Hollywood studios has started construction now and that’s expected to be a spring/summer 2028 opening.

Plus there has been some rumours of finally a major new ride being added to the main park in 2029 (but there has been rumours of major new rides at that park for two decades! So who knows!).

There is something unusual about that boat. It has a section at the front that is running along the trough, potential on its own track, hard to tell. Like a zero car or guide car in front but below the boat.
Can't think of another water ride that has that.

Maybe there is some design so it can run better in low water levels, enabling the ride to operate without a major splashdown in the Winter?

Interesting post here that explains the reasoning for the test model, even if it is enthusiast speculation:

Although all that is really stating is they built it for testing, not why Imagineering have made a custom designed flume ride that needs testing. Given lots of manufactuers have standard flumes and Disney already have flume rides in multiple parks, there has to be a unique element to this one that needs tests.

Not remotely interested in visiting for Frozen. However a splash Mountain inspired flume ride with a Lion Ling theme is definitely worth a trip for.

I concur on the above thoughts too. This must have some sort of new tech. No way they are building a test drop sequence for a standard flume ride.

2028 or 2029 do we reckon?

Am I right in thinking that Lion King will be the same ride system as Shanghai Pirates? If so, it's a much bigger drop than Shanghai and the drop is outdoors, which might explain the testing. If you look at the front of the boat underneath, it looks like the same pivot to rotate the boat around.

If it's Shanghai's ride system then it seems like they wouldn't need to test it, and the speculation above about testing a split station (solved by it's a small world decades ago) and tight turns (seemingly solved by, I don't know, the fundamentals of geometry) doesn't make that much sense to me. I guess that having a more technically advanced boat like in Shanghai plus a big drop might be new enough to have cause for checking it out in advance, but in the above picture the rest of the flume doesn't appear to have the center guiding track from Shanghai or any room for the boat to rotate in different directions. I guess we'll see.
