Agree with this. I don't even view it as an IP. I'm old enough to know what it is but it comes across as an original concept of which you need no prior knowledge to enjoy. And the fact it's a period piece makes it timeless like you say. It's basically a variation of a haunted house.

The drop sequence is still great but the special effects on the Orlando version in particular are very dated now. My son thought it looked very naff a few weeks ago. He said he thought it would be much scarier than it was.

They do change the castles though. Cinderella castle.is about to undergo a 10 month repaint to the old colours.

I am not even saying im personally in favour of them getting rid of Tower of Terror either. Id like it to stay as it is and perhaps get some new modern effects. I was just pointing out that the younger generation dont have the same attachment to the ride we do. Its an age thing.

I'm ancient, and even have absolutely zero attachment to the Twilight Zone outside of the rides. Almost no one has, especially in Europe. So for new, young, people coming to it now it has exactly the same starting off point as it did for me a couple of decades ago. It's not an age thing at all.

From what I have heard it is possible they will loose/end the twilight zone IP in the not to distant future. However certainly in WDW it likly to still be Hollywood Tower Of Terror just with out the IP. A new pre show video and a few tweeks to the ride theming (like the video at the very end) is likly what we will see. Alot of the merchandise now doesn’t state twilight zone on it and just Hollywood Tower of Terror.

Luckily for us Disney dont care enough about Paris so they will probably leave that one alone or delay the changes as long as possible.

You could remove the IP and just have a Haunted Hotel and the Florida one would still be a great ride.

They didn’t change the California ToT to Gaurdians because Twilight Zone is old, they didn’t change it because they wanted synergy with the current movie and this was easier/cheaper than building a whole new attraction.

You say it’s being repainted to the OLD colours, so they are actually making it more retro, not modernised?

You could do what Tokyo DisneySea did make Tower of Terror without Twilight Zone its an original version the first to stray away from it.

And that Tower of Terror has a beautiful facade
 
Going back to the boat ride testing for a moment, Disney must have their reasons for needing to test what they need to test, on site.

WDI is arguably up there with the very best in ride manufacturers on the planet. While they may not build all the physical hardware themselves, they very much design the electronics and control systems, then integrate them into the third party purchased physical hardware for all their rides. Even when purchasing track and trains from reputable companies such as MACK. This is before you even consider the show control elements, which are heavily integrated into ride control electronics, hence why Disney do it themselves. Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood studios for one of many examples, is so heavily modified it is basically a WDI manufactured attraction, with MACK acting as a contractor to WDI. Sort of how Claremont steel create B&M coaster track, but the rides are always credited to B&M and not Claremont.

Bottom line, WDI know what they are doing, they are world leaders in that specific field of engineering and I doubt they would be installing test track for an upcoming ride unless they absolutely needed to. Exciting times non the less, this does look like a very exciting development.

I'm guessing everyone missed the attempted Twilight Zone reboot from the other year?

Get Jordan Peele involved.

Clearly the different choice of theme for Hong Kong is to suit what exists. It's not exactly the same as retheming an existing attraction. Paris' one will probably be safe as with the park refurb there's still a Hollywood area (or whatever it is) so might well be safe. Think the French absolutely love it.

So its not the actual Twilight Zone theme that you actually care about is it? Its more that its a creepy theme you like, the drop sequence and you dont want it to be Guardians. Thats pretty much it, right?

And I do think its an age thing. Tower of Terror when I first got into theme parks was arguably cutting edge and right at the very top of the tree. As time as gone its not quite as impressive as it used to be. Enthusiasts of the new era dont remember when it was top dog like we do. They now look to Rise and HP Rides the way we once looked at TOT

I’ve only been on the Paris one but for me it’s the best non coaster theme park ride in Europe and evidently still very popular so in that regard ultimately I don’t think it matters what enthusiasts think about it.

Tbh it’s probably my favourite ride in Europe even including coasters, I think it’s wonderful and everything a theme park attraction should be. Making it Marvel would lose its character but i appreciate it could reinvigorate it for a new audience… basically Bubbleworks to Gruffalo.

The Paris one is definitely better than the Orlando version but again my son is 11 and fairly new to the theme park scene and this ride doesnt mean the same to him as it does to you and I. Thats my point.

In fact TOT (Orlando version) didnt
even register on his list of favourite rides at WDW. It was well down the list which is my point.

The Orlando version in particular needs some massive work done on it. The effects prior to the shot / drop sequence actually look really naff now.
