Disneyland Paris: General Discussion

Opening day visits for new rides and lands are a complete lottery. They can go great but more often than not they go pretty badly which is why i will never visit on one of these days.

The actual land looks great though from the pics I have seen and it really makes a difference to that park now there's more space and the lake added. I just wish they'd have gone for Avatar or Star Wars from a selfish point of view as I have absolutely zero interest in Frozen.

Land looks good from videos - looking forward to seeing it later in the year in person.

One thing that keeps getting highlighted is the rather strange operational decision to completely close the bridge to the right of Frozen in the evening for the nightshow barges to come through, but then not reopen it. Makes Frozen a complete dead end for the last few hours of the day, and can't imagine it's ideal for crowd flow. Odd that it can't be like Epcot, where the barges come through, then the path immediately reopens.

For me....the land itself looks 100 times more impressive than the actual boat ride. I think I'd enjoy walking around the area more than the main attraction which is a bit of a weird one. I can definitely see why lots of people are saying that these Frozen boat rides aren't quite E ticket standard because they definitely aren't on a par with other modern Disney dark rides.

I think they should have pushed the boat out though (pun intended) and added a Frozen themed coaster as the land, although looks stunning, certainly lacks things to do. A smaller scale Expedition Everest only themed to Frozen would have been really really good. An opportunity missed.

Some more details about the Lion King ride have been revealed in recent permits-

The ride will feature -
2 lift hills
3 Drops
19 scenes
Duel loading platform
What’s listed as a gigantic show scene at the end after the final drop

Final drop is 52.5ft (same as splash mountains)- although ride layout is different to splash mountains

The show building is the biggest every built at Disneyland Paris

Will feature bioluminescent technology, detailed environments, advanced Audio-Animatronics.

It could very well be the best ride at DLP, certainly one of the best. Just a shame it is not happening sooner, I believe they have said that the construction timeframe is the same as Frozen's was, so we can expect it to open in 10 or 20 years or so.

I’m optimistic it will be quicker than that and they will certainly want it open before Universal UK.

Frozen was 8 years total from announcement to opening but there was essentially a 3 year delay to groundbreaking due to Covid.

Lion King is already under construction so i think at worst it’ll be 2030.

From what understand it’s currently expected for a 2028 opening! Not holding my breath though! Maybe 2029 more realistic. With a new ride expected for the main park in 2029/30

It’s also been rumoured last week or so that zootopia might now be the next expansion around the lake. The zootopia area has gone down very well in Shanghai and hot pursuit is constantly rated as guests favourite attraction in guest surveys. Coupled with the massive success of the recent movie it’s believed Disney is looking to expand Zootopia into other parks.

Plus the films director posted an image recently that had the words Disneyland Paris secrets, on a post about expanding Zootopia into other parks.

So... Splash Mountain With Lions. Not the worst pitch!
It still is quite disappointing the concept isn’t anything particularly innovative or new. I’m sure they’ll deck it out with all the fancy new tech, but the way it was utilised in Tiana’s was poor for the ride system.

That being said, Disney do like to clone “the classics”, so by that metric it would make this DLP’s Splash Mountain. At least they won’t have to retrofit anything in this time.

Zootopia is a better film than Avatar, in my opinion, but themed areas work better as places you'd actually want to go in real life. As such, I'd rather visit Pandora than Zootopia. The film relied on plot and humour, which is great for a story, but the ride doesn't appeal much to me. More than either, I'd like the new area to be based on Tangled, because I think the forested environment is somewhere you'd actually want to go for real. The Tokyo DisneySea Tangled ride also looks pretty good.

As for the main park, am I the only one who still wants Jungle Cruise?

In this case the bar they're trying to clear is "how many people will this ride convince to come to Disney Adventure World instead of just Parc Disneyland" and, as one of the world's foremost Disney Adventure World haters, I must confess this will absolutely work on me.

A "book report"-style log flume based on one of Disney's greatest and most beloved modern films is what I'd consider playing the hits in the best possible way, and truthfully a nice return to form after things like Galaxy's Edge and Tiana's ride where an attempt at deviating from the formula and trying something new produced attractions that were simply too clever by half. In many recent cases Disney went off on some weird high-concept excursion when doing the obvious thing that everyone expected them to do would have made everyone much happier in the end
