Drayton Manor Park

If anything, that would typically mean it would be the opposite - if you have a chunky adult riding RMT with someone who is about 0.9m, that restraint won't be doing a lot for the kid. They're not going to fall out ... but they're not being 'held' in.

I think it's probably down to the respective eras those rides were built.
If anything individual lap bars would make the restriction lower as a tighter lock can be achieved.
That's a good point, ignore me 🙃

The food has always been awful at Drayton.
Back in the nineties, the good thing about staying at the old campsite was a full english breakfast for lunch!
And always the chippy in Fazely for tea.

Great chippy that is mate. Always has been.

Back in maybe 2005, as Staff, you could get a full cooked canteen style meal, Shepard's pie, roast dinners, chips, pies etc for £2, up at the Tower suit. That is about the best I have seen the food at the park, but staff only. Not sure when that ended. But it was there in 2005 as I was specifically working in catering at the park the year G-force opened so remember the year well.

Dave makes a good point. It is an easy way for parks to make money. With actual substantial investments starting to trickle into the park, I guess I can accept that. The quality of the food was not too bad, well the burger and ice creams at least, I can always take a packed lunch. So no drama really.

Saw them promoting a new range of 'dirty' fries on twitter the other week that looked good.

Seem to recall on my last visit the only place I found doing food was the burger place next to the old pirates adventure building.

I can remember around 2004ish getting amazing ice cream cones, freshly made in store waffle cones with multiple scoops of carte d’or, sauces and cream. That was the best thing about food at Drayton.
Pretty sure we always got fish and chips and watched the strange animatronic band back then and it was expensive but didn’t seem unreasonable.

But going with my parents back in the early 90s we took packed lunch to eat in the queues as we could barely afford the wristbands let alone buying food on park.
The Jungle Palladium was a excellent show and having the Jungle Cruise and pirate Adventure it was like you got to see Drayton take on classic Disney attractions.
After the jungle Palladium closed at the end of the 1998 season it was left empty for a year as the design was changed a few times to they got the golden nuggets sponsorship deal then 3 new shows opened using the animatronics with a cowboy theme show in the fish and chip shop. A royal knight show in the cafe restaurant which is now the staff canteen and the parrots which are still in the pizza restaurant today.

I remember these well. The Teashop show was Jungle themed with the Jungle Cruise next door. It was re dressed as a medieval show for the opening of Excalibur. It was the same show, same animatronics, just new clothing, audio and backdrop ect.

Never saw the Jungle Palladium show, just the 3 shows that came after. The building still lives on though, with Sheriffs Showdown inside. I do know the waterwheel under the queue line was there though. As it was used as infrastructure of some sort, not sure exactly what though. I was functioning in the early 2000's. Whatever it was used for, it must not be needed anymore, as it has not moved for a long time.

My parents, who went before shockwave openned said there used to be one place in the whole park for food so I can well believe it.

New look to the website with the new rides being added together with height restrictions of 2.2m for the Disko coaster and Nebulaz. 0.86m for the horse ride and 1.05 for the rethemed Buffalo coaster with picture of ride.

The famous green square has disappeared, this is a real shame, something that was really helpful and certainly improved the experience. Overall I think it looks alright, focuses less on Thomas which I think is a good thing, although I was a big fan of the old website as it was so easy to use. I'd say this website is a bit more boring and standard but looks very functional.

Hope you mean 1.2 as I don’t think there are many 2.2 metre tall people knocking about😆

Can’t wait to visit once the new area is ready, I haven’t even seen adventure cove in person yet either so that will be good. If we don’t take a picnic we will probably get a pizza or two from the pizza place if it’s open as that seems like decent value, at least compared to the cost of a separate burger, fries and drink x4.

It’s a shame the river rapids are 1.2 as my youngest is a few cm below so we won’t be going on that as a family yet. Understandable that they want to be cautious with that ride though.

I remember the animatronic band. Though in my head there was a bear playing a banjo. I remember it being in a building at the back of apocalypse but I don’t remember the name of the show.

Reminds me of the Singing Mushrooms at Kings Dominion in the States.

Think the lead singer was a duck.
But yes the chip shop was in a building just being Apocalypse.

🎼I am a rat and I live in his hat and he can't catch me because he's too darn fat. 🐻🐀🎻

The Jungle Palladium was an absolute classic of the era. One of my childhood faves - I had the soundtrack on cassette tape.

For just a taste, it's probably worth checking out this video of the soundtrack, complete with a slideshow of pics from the ride and its eventual conversion to Golden Nuggets Shootout:

Just listening to that has just reminded me of the moment when an anthropomorphic bird impersonating Shirley Bassey would descend from the ceiling on a swing. You just don't get that in theme park shows these days. Though I'd pay good money to see it added to Derren Brown's Ghost Train.

Here is some photos of the animatronics used across the shows 3 shows and Jungle Palladium. Not my photos but nice to see.

Sounds somewhat similar to the banjo playing dog in Cap’n Andy’s Revue at Thorpe Park.
