Drayton Manor Park

Excalibur was the first new ride I followed online...with much hype and build up from the park.
Long queues in the first season, then non stop problems with the ride system and animations.
It were tripe!

The Tom Sawyer rafts at Blackpool seemed bulletproof in comparison, the ride rarely if ever had problems.

As true as that may be, I think they could still have invested a fair amount more into the main park than they did following Thomas. One roller coaster and one flat ride in 12 years is not a lot.

And a hotel. Which is commonly thought to be the final millstone around the Bryan ownership.

Best part of Excalibur was the constant "PLEASSSSE REMAIN SEATED AT ALLLLL TIMES" and a few other choice quotes from it. The dodgy aquatic Brummie Lady in the Lake being the main one. Aside from that it was generally naff and tacky.

Drayton Manors Gold Annual pass is currently on sale for £75 each.

I brought my 1st in 2017 and that was £70 so with all the stuff the park added since 2021 that’s excellent value for money

Just purchased one myself
Got a Blackpool one for 2025 for £100, Adventure island for £30 (as got it in the sale in 2024), and Drayton for £75. Great value!

Copy/ paste from another forum but I/we went to the half term event today…

So. Went today.. ill try to be fair but what a shambles.

Weather was atrocious/ not a lot the park can do. But upon opening at 10:30 it took until 11:15 to scan in maybe 200 people.

Get the birthday bag thing - turns out you need to attend different shows to get the sweets for the bag.
Chaos after each show - it’s raining hard, cold. Kids crying everywhere.

One of the “events”‘is at the 4d cinema - there’s a sign outside saying show every 15 mins.
Nothing else.
About 35 of us wait 40 mins in the indoor area - nothing.

Eventually a staff member comes past and says we need to use the exit

Sigh.

We go to the exit, there’s a member of staff inside who tells us the show is only twice a day and it’s 2.5hrs for the next one. They just didn’t do the signage yet.

Onto the castle for “cupcake” making.

The room is freezing. It’s dark (only a dark blue light) - you can’t see a thing.

The cupcakes are pre-Iced. The decorations are just regular sweets -wrapped still.

My girl just ate the cake as it came.

Soft play was supposed to be closed 12:45-13:30 but at 13:30 we’re told it’s going to re open at 2:30 as the staff went late for their lunch.

Sigh again.
Off to Sodor cafe to warm up.
We order a jacket potato. There’s 3 left.
After 15 mins we’re like - where is the potato?!
They gave our order to the wrong person. Who despite not ordering a potato accepted and started eating it anyway.
No potato’s are left.

We were told they couldn’t refund , as we paid on Apple Pay (this is false) and we could have a substitute to the same value - but all other hot options were more expensive. And we had to pay the difference.

We just left at this point.

Oh Drayton Manor Park and Zoo... I hope a complaint email is on the way. Legislation around refunds is perfectly clear, and refunding a transaction through Apple Pay is the same process as a contactless card refund.

It was horrific. Considering the event was 99.9% Thomas Land they were ill equipped to cope with the sub 500 people on site at all.

To be fair, I have had some really good fun times with work clients in the area, canal paths, moorings, snow thingy, castle and parks, all great fun over time.
...and Drayton.

Anyway not a lot going on around the theme park but can confirm the Flying Dutchman is staying where it is and the operator had a new control room built and they themed the power room.

Accelerator currently hasn’t been worked on outside

IMG_5192.jpegIMG_5195.jpeg
As the ride was closed couldn’t tell if the inside been themed.
They currently working on the Dodgems building

IMG_5187.jpeg
Minor work round the side and back of the pirate adventure building.
IMG_5201.jpegIMG_5200.jpegIMG_5203.jpegIMG_5202.jpeg
The Meerkats have been moved or currently been moved to the Farm end of the park.
IMG_5204.jpeg
That was the former queue line for Terence driving school.

IMG_5205.jpeg
The Meerkats founder home has a sign outside and all signage has been removed

IMG_5221.jpegIMG_5222.jpegIMG_5223.jpeg
They also working on the former Sea lion enclosure

It is usually disassembled like this most years. It's age requires frequent full checks of the mechanicals and structure, meaning it has to be taken apart.
This does not rule out a new ride in it's place though.

Called it last year.

Their shiny new wild west area does look a bit of a state though, I have to say.

You've got a bright green rollercoaster, a pirate themed boat ride and an unfinished looking wild west coaster station.....the immersion is strong. I can't seem to recall the time in history when there were aliens and pirates in the American Midwest.

That metal bit on the top of the new coaster station looks a bit ridiculous, mainly due to how small the themed wheels are on it. It makes it look unfinished and out of place.

Theming purchased from Wish?
