Efteling: General Discussion

That's my plan! It's a total coincidence that I'm there on the final day of operation.
 
I like Efteling a lot.

But I prefer Disneyland Paris as I think the rides are better.

I've been an "enthusiast" for eight years and still never visited a Disney park despite being near three of them at various times... we found them to be much more expensive than other parks nearby.

Am surprised at how expensive Efteling is actually, though considering the park is open 10 hours, the cost/hour is probably less than Alton Towers :D

Really? At 42,€ I don’t find that particularly expensive compared to the other major European independent theme parks. EP and Phantasialand are now over 50,€ per day if I recall correctly.
 
Fair to say different parks and chains have maintained varying degrees of gate integrity!
 
I'm used to around £25 - £30 for Alton Towers, Blackpool etc and I'm paying 23.50 euros through a friend for Walibi Holland.

I mean, it's fine just more than I expected

So as you're not paying full price for any of these parks, surely Efteling isn't the problem?


That said I think I've paid for Efteling on it's own once, all the other times the cost is part of the hotel stay, which is usually where the value lies, especially in Bosrijk...
 
I've always found the big difference with the major European theme parks compared to the UK ones is the distinct lack of reduced price tickets.

Efteling is far and away worth the entrance fee, not a fan of it being €12.50 to park though.
 
At the risk of sounding like Nick Varney, a full price entrance ticket to almost any park for a single day still feels pretty cheap vs going to the pub (local = £3.60 for a lager), going on the football (£28 for a championship game) or the cinema (£14 for an adult).
 
Where on earth are you going to the cinema @Rick ? £5 for an adult cinema ticket at almost all Odeon / Vue venues.

I totally agree with your point though.
 
@D4n Near me the Odeon is £12, the Vue nearest (with recliners at every seat etc) is full whack, but if you drive past that one to the next two nearest they do the £5 anytime thing.

To bring this closer to the topic... Ummm... I like Pandadroom.

If you sign up to the mailing list and visit during the month of your birthday you get a great discount. To be fair when we visited in July they didn’t even ask for ID to check dob’s.
 
Here's a media heavy update:

Bob officially closed yesterday with a big party fronted by Jürgen Freilich.





Eftelwesley has been following the park's demolition of Bob, starting today. They were already felling trees whilst Bob was still in operation.





The announcement board made for Max & Moritz is, er, interesting. Looopings article.

And Toverland decided to be a bit cheeky and joke that their Maximus was part of Efteling's new project.

 
Nice to see there not wasting anytime with the new ride construction.

Really like the colour logo for Max and Moritz, should be a nice coaster for families and younger children something their currently lacking. Just a pity the coaster you assume they were going to aim to older children seems to now be stuck in planning limbo.

Love the little video from Toverland, the blitz Bahn theme tune is ace. Takes me back to being on the ride.

I had to leave before the party at 8pm, but still got three rides on Bob! Fun coaster, and a different experience to Avalanche at Blackpool. I really liked the park as a whole, though Walibi Holland is the better park for thrill seekers, Efteling has a lovely environment and the rides were run so efficiently! (Walibi was great too)

Perhaps the most interesting thing is the "take your belongings with you" policy. Even on Python I must take my bag with me despite it going upside-down! It certainly speeds up operations.

With regards to baggage, it is amazing how different parks deal with it. At one end you have rides with metal detectors ensuring you have nothing with you, on certain rides. Then you have Disney and Efteling making you take everything with you where the design of the train allows.

I've ridden Rock n' Roller Coaster at Paris with a pull along suitcase. Quite bizarre.

I was a bit nervous the first time, my bag was heavy enough to do some damage should it fall and hit someone. Sure, during normal operation it won't come out but if there's a fault for example and the train ran slowly (or stalled) in the loop maybe it would? Oh well.
