Efteling: General Discussion

More pictures of the refurbished Efteling Wonder Hotel here from Themepark.nl:

Actually really like what they've done with this, looks nicely themed, possibly inspired by Symbolica. Total opposite of what they did to Bosrijk Eethuys last year.

I dunno what the target market is, but I find these rides actually really fun, love the ones at Phantasialand the most. Having 3 together with the theming structure in the middle should be great. And love how it’s fitting so well into the area and Baron.
With those family drop towers, I'm sure these will be enjoyed by both young and old alike 🙂

I find these Zierer Family Freefall Towers enjoyable and pack a punch 😄

Had the pleasure of riding the ‘new’ show of De Vliegende Hollander. I like it, interesting how with a few tweaks it feels better paced and more atmospheric into the outside portion. Also FOG. Did go down for a bit in the afternoon.

Also Dance Macabre is an excellent family flat. Avoid spoilers if you haven’t ridden it yet. Though as I know the piece ‘Dance Macabre’ very well I probably was the only one not surprised at the ending. I’d also avoid the single rider queue for that.

Why so? It eats through the SRQ fairly nicely. Only thing missed is the pre-show bit.
I’d say it’s potentially worth it if it was empty or the main queue was horrendous. As a single rider myself today the main queue ended up being 20 mins, appeared faster than the SRQ and the main queue is far, far more pleasant than the SRQ staircase.

Baron SRQ is hit or miss, tend to find if it’s reached the switchback the main queue is normally better. Hollander and Joris SRQs have definitely been good choices on all of my visits.

A virtual queue for Danse Macabre has been introduced. Seems like it could be permanent:

It's a bit confusing on the app as it says if you have a facility card (i.e RAP) then you can use either entrance but you need to show both your QR and Facility card if you use the virtual queue. I don't see why you need to show the Facility card as you wouldn't be using it unless they're only referring to non-ambulant users who then wouldn't be accessing the main attraction.... but then they wouldn't use the virtual queue anyway 🤔

Slots are also time sensitive, as in if you arrive late you lose your spot.

Good evening everyone has anyone been to efteling 1st or 2nd week of July please wondering how busy it gets i have an opportunity to take my daughter then but she is only 4 and autistic and doesn't cope very well when the park is crazy

I haven't but Efteling have their own crowd calendar which presumably is based at least partially on actual tickets sales and that period is indicated to be busy.

Dutch schools break up earlier than the UK and go back earlier too (we visited in late August as a result). The 3 regions break up on the 4th, 11th and 18th of July respectively so likely to get busier each week. Thus going the first week would probably be your best bet!

They also offer a "Facility Card" for disabilities, we got one for my son who is autistic too but in the end we only used it on one ride as the queues were either short or pleasantly designed (or both). You can apply for it on the app in advance, it's very easy to do.

Not sure if you have visited before but the park is very large with lots of tranquil locations to relax away from the popular attractions.

It has been confirmed that the Danse Macabre Virtual Queue is a permanent addition.

I checked it just now and the main queue is 30 minutes whilst the virtual is 150 minutes! I wonder what the expiration time on your virtual pass is as that seems quite challenging to organise.

Seems like a win win to me! Come back to ride in 2.5 hours or queue half an hour now - you know where you stand and have options, whilst not screwing over people who just want to queue traditinally.

Seems like there's basically no reason NOT to use the virtual queue so it's hardly surprising that the slots get booked up quickly. I guess the only real downside is that you have to plan to be back for your ride time which in a park as large as Efteling is by no means trivial.

Hopefully the numbers are fairly limited, would be a shame to make it like Disney's old FP system where if you couldn't get a ticket you'd be forced to stand around for ages in a queue that hardly moves.

Seems there was an incident on Joris and the Dragon where a passengers safety bar was not checked and they went round without it locked in!

They suffered no injury and it was deemed human error not technical. They also had a safety belt on.
