Efteling: General Discussion
Something I may have missed on here but Efteling are currently developing plans to enhance the area around Baron with two Zierer drop towers (like the ones at legoland and Paultons added in recent years).
It is all part of a new plan to enhance capacity by adding smaller attractions near their bigger rides/projects and create cohesive themed areas.
I don’t believe a timeline has been set yet for this development or any future projects like this.

Elsewhere, Danse Macabre music will hit Spotify this week.
Will be a must listen if it includes all the cat noises.
But will it be as cat as

I was going to make a joke where I edited in Langnek looking dead into the room to make it “more Efteling”…There’s a criticism that seems to permeate a lot of Efteling’s recent updates (primarily accommodation related), which is that it’s “not very Efteling” or to be more specific, it’s a bit bland. The proposed updates to Efteling Hotel’s lobby and the recently completed refurbishment of Eethuys at Bosrijk are a couple of examples.
I think the current hotel risks seeing that same criticism.

But no I guess they already thought of that. Langnek can see halfway around the world! He can see you sleeping. Just staying here makes it more apparent..
I like the rooms. They’re pretty charming, and it’s important to remember an average guest probably wants some sense of familiarity while they pipe down after a day at De Efteling, so I think it’s a great mix of quirkiness and actually liveable hotel room (even if an O.J Punctueel wake up call would be funny).
The fantasy creatures of the park are actually quite freaky at times - I don’t want them in the same room where I close my eyes for an extended period of time. You want to let your guard down around this thing?!

But oh well… it could always be “more efteling”. Sweet dreams kids.

One thing I did notice over my visit was there being a distinct lack of kids attractions around Baron and Danse Macabre. Even up top by Dutchman & Joris it's not the most populated. Even if could take little one on the Rapids it's not the most sensible thing on Christmas to ride (still did). This can only be a positive.
Regarding Efteling characters in hotel rooms. Nowhere near as terrifying as the Night Garden room at Towers.

I always thought the face was probably way too scary for a family audience - that being said, I really hope they keep it. It’s more the top end of the lift hill that needs help..Sounds like it's the bit at the bottom of the lift hill (where spooky face appears) that'll get redone mainly.
The shipwreck section was a definite improvement over the inconsistent projection.

Little heads up that Danse Macabre is now confirmed as closed from April 7th - 9th. I'm assuming to allow Intamin to fix the beeping sound that currently plagues the ride?
Newbie post here, but my daughter and I are planning on visiting Efteling later this year, from Derby. What sort of travel options are best? Looking at it, flying from Birmingham to Amsterdam would probably be best but the problem looks like getting from the airport to the park?

If you are on Facebook, I can recommend a group called Efteling Just for Brits, loads of Efteling-specific travel advice and stuff in there especially for families.Newbie post here, but my daughter and I are planning on visiting Efteling later this year, from Derby. Quite a lot of people on here would probably opt to drive rather than fly as the distances are pretty manageable and driving in NL is easy. Also it's an excellent excuse to tag on other parks

There are public transport options if you prefer to fly but I'm less familiar with them than others. Timing your arrival so you can use trains, buses etc would be important as by all accounts a taxi to Efteling from any airport would be prohibitively expensive!

We got a taxi, pre booked it was about 200 Euros but you could probably get an Uber for a fair bit less and of course if you drive you could hire a car for even less. It’s only around an hour from the airport and is an easy wide motorway most of the journey. Also meant that despite leaving at 10am we still got half a day in the park upon arriving.
Obviously depends on your circumstances and budget. There are trains/buses though it’s somewhat convoluted with a fair bit of walking involved but if that’s not an issue then you just need to factor in the extra time.
Edit to add you can fly from Manchester to Eindhoven which is the closest airport to Efteling with an approximate drive of 35 min.

Manchester to Eindhoven via Ryanair is a good option.Newbie post here, but my daughter and I are planning on visiting Efteling later this year, from Derby. What sort of travel options are best? Flying would be faster and likely cheaper to one of the 3 main Dutch airports. You could also rail + sail (see Man in Seat 61 website) or drive via the ferry from Harwich or from Hull. I wouldn’t bother with the Eurostar to Amsterdam - very limited both in services and capacity.
Public transport in the Netherlands is easiest by contactless bank card tap on and off on all forms of transport (similar to London for example) but you can buy individual tickets online and at train stations. It is worth downloading the 9292 app and the NS app. If your daughter is under 11 then there’s cheaper tickets available.
To get to Efteling you catch a train to either s'Hertogenbosch (from Amsterdam/Schiphol/Eindhoven) or Tilburg (Rotterdam/Eindhoven) and then a direct bus service. I did it from Tilburg and it was very easy without too much walking either end.
