Efteling: General Discussion

It’s surprisingly intense and silky smooth. Not surprised it’s popular enough to warrant more investment!
It was great when we went on it a few weeks ago. Those restraints aren’t the most comfortable but the ride itself was excellent after the very slow lift hill. Bizarre that you take your bag on with you!

Coincidentally I went on Danse Macabre today for the first time. I thought it was a fantastic ride and a lot more fun than I thought it would be!

Looks like they are planning to add some more elements to the ride as well.

Was there anything big changed between this ride program and the previous one? Apart from making it break down more often?

Its awesome isn't it! Rode it last year just after it opened. Think they have added an extra drop into the sequence (used to be just at the end). Also looks like some of the spinning is a bit more intense from what I've seen of the POV's. Also think they have added more stuff in the portion below the ride when it tilts

I’m lucky enough to have ridden it both before and after the mods

the first sequence, seemed to have a much darker feel to it, the lighting and animatronics weren’t that visible I would say during the first half or so, so it certainly held a more mysterious feel to it. With the whole room coming to life in the second portion.

moving on to our second visit to efteling after the mods, the animatronics kick in and are visible considerably earlier, the lighting effects are also present much earlier on, with the addition of a lightning strike and an additional drop

the difference between the two shows was very black and white, i feel like I was much more impressed by the ride on my first visit, but I still absolutely adore it and love what they’ve done either way!

They also have teased some new animatronics that will be added - nothing more than that, just that it will happen. The empty alcoves were a bit odd.

I do think about that with Danse Macabre. The second version makes more sense to me, with the musicians playing to add visual interest to the first half while their jumpscare animations are different enough to count as this sort of “transformation”. While I think its great they kept the single room that changes experience down, I do feel there is not nearly as much as Spookslot. Reasonably so, they had to fit a ride system in, but if I am to be scathing, I do think it is a little disappointing that all but one of the walls look the same.

Not necessarily a critique, but did anyone else notice that all the animatronic musicians play instruments that the original Danse Macabre piece does not include?

To continue the critique, the waiting areas in the building weren't particularly fun, especially if you were batched early on.

Maybe they'll be adding stuff in those sections?

Yeah not sure. Kind of like the dark emptiness of it to be honest. Could probably do with some more detail, however seem to remember it being quite dark in those areas?

Its a mixed one for me. It really suits the ride's theme and atmosphere, but at the same time you're stood in a dark room/passageway with no indication of how long you'll be stood there and not much to entertain yourself with.

I single ridered it my times riding though so probably makes a difference.

Efteling have posted an official POV of Danse Macabre

Efteling Onride - Danse Macabre
One thing not obvious here, and something I only noticed on my third go is that you can actually see the unnameable (at least the eyes) rising underneath the instruments.

Also an unrelated question, on my rides on Villa Volta when the room was fully flipped it just had a lit up rectangle behind one of the pole arms, which didn't seem to be anything. Was something broken there or am I missing something?
