Sub-Terra was a great example of this. Alton set the height limit at 1.4m to effectively age gate the ride without having to age check. I remember researching the ride system and finding the manufacturers requirement were only 1m (at least before the later modifications). Based on the experience and how hard it is to properly age check I think it was a good choice.

I'm aware in Europe there is a requirement of 140cm on the larger coasters compared to in the US of 137cm but just trying to understand the thought process behind the significant difference.

Imagine being in that gap where you can ride the world's tallest coaster (Kingda Ka) but couldn't ride a coaster a fraction of that size and speed (Rita)

I believe 140cm is about 4’7”, but for some reason, the big ride height restrictions seem to be 1 inch lower in America, at 4’6” or 137cm. Although oddly, for the 1.2m rides, the restrictions in America seem to be marginally higher at 122cm or 4’, while 120cm, which we use in Britain and Europe, is about 3’11”.

They're just going with whatever is most convenient, height restrictions are largely arbitrary anyway - the manufacturer will have done an ergonomic study to demonstrate that the restraints work for a passenger of some minimum size, the height restriction can then be set anywhere above that point.

As an aside BPB used to use ft/inches for everything. They now list their height restrictions in cm but haven't otherwise changed them, so they aren't rounded to the nearest 0.1m like most UK parks

I’ll admit I’ve always found it odd how UK parks do height restrictions in metres, considering most people in Britain seem to know their height in feet and inches; for example, if someone asked me my height, I would say that I’m 5’9.5”, not (I had to check Google here, as I’m not that good at metric to imperial conversions) 176.5cm. There’s probably a perfectly logical reason they do it like that, but it seems strange given that most Brits measure their heights in imperial units.

Although I suppose height restrictions aren’t really something I have to worry about these days, as I’ve been above 1.4m since I was about 10. The only person in my family who occasionally has to worry about height restrictions these days is my dad, who’s 6’6” (198cm) and has been booted off of a few rides for being too tall.

I think we should just change our unit of measurement to one nice round fathom, there'd be far less queuing if rides were only accessible to us fully sized people.

It certainly needs it and I'm sure it will be getting some.

However the fact there's no rockwork in place at this point makes me believe that we might need to lower expectations on this one somewhat. I had mini BTM VIBES when it was announced and after seeing what they did with the last few additions but I doubt it's going to live up that. I'm sure it will still be a popular well themed family ride though.

It does very much look like a car park coaster at the moment, which is a shame so hopefully some theming does appear. Maybe there is parts to be added where those large concrete slabs are which are dotted across the sire. Not sure what else they could be there for?

It'd be weird for them to build Abyssus and that themed area and then not theme the next addition at all.

Might be doing a track one year then themeing next thing.

There's definitely going to be theming. I was just expecting loads of rockwork which is looking less likely now.

Theming is still ongoing in the Aqualantis area. I can't help but notice how cheap Abyssus' footers look....

I must say, this area looks lovely! I definitely think Energylandia is beginning a transition into becoming a theme park as opposed to an amusement park, and I think we will see this become clearer within the next few years!

Wait, so to get to Abyssus you have to walk through the construction site for the next area? OK then. It also looks like the route through to Zadra from the original park could become quite a bottleneck as they expand further on that side - the path will soon lead to 3 areas rather than just 1.

I hadn't realised just how many rides were going into Aqualantis - 2 coasters and a disco "coaster", a tow boat ride and 3-4 Zamperla rides (not sure what's going on with what looks like a watermania - it's on the map but not labelled so presumably not opening any time soon?). That's a pretty major expansion in anyone's book.
