European Coaster Poll 2024 (round 3 open)

It's back!

It's been a few years but the (no longer particularly) traditional closed season European coaster poll is returning. And like another high profile pan-European competition, this year we've had a big revamp. Some rules are staying the same, so there's no entries from Alton Towers, and a standard knockout format at the end, but instead of the usual group stage there's now one big 'Swiss league' format to get us down from 32 entries to 16. Instead of having to make a new thread for every round, entries will now be submitted via Google Forms (email addresses will not be collected). You do not need to have riden a coaster to vote for it

All the coasters have been drawn together into an initial round of head to head matches. The results of each round will affect the draw for the following round. After 8 rounds the top 16 will go through to the knockout stages. Each round will begin on Monday and end on Sunday. The coaster with the most votes wins and gets 3 points, any draws are worth 1 point each.

The entry list is shorter than the last few times I've ran the poll, to see how the new format goes. If all is well, it will be extended again next season.

Each week the next round will be posted in the thread and edited into this post. There will be a two week break for Christmas and New Year, finishing in March ahead of the new season.

Entry list

Round 1 (closes 23:59 Sunday 8th)
Round 2 (closes 23:59 Sunday 15th)
Round 3 (closes 23:59 Sunday 22nd)

Are you sure that Dragon Khan is actually meant to be in there on the voting form?

There had to be some tough decisions made to get down to 32 entries, some personal favourites and cult classics had to go, but Khan has often done well in past runnings and it's hard to justify leaving out a massive B&M sit-down no matter how it has aged.

Even with the plan to extend the entry list next time, as usual poorly performing coasters may find themselves relegated for the next edition

Seems like a bit of a pointless game. We all know what's gonna win.
Gotta pass closed season somehow, though. ;)

There's some hard choices.

Then there's Katun v Red Force. Katun is so far away better it seems harsh on RF.

Will the results from each week be posted or will the league table be kept secret until the end of the group stage?

I will post the table after round 3 at the Christmas break, but I'm still undecided about whether to keep posting it after that or keep it secret until the end of the group stage, or go for the dramatic option of revealing it for the final round. Happy to hear people's thoughts on that

Yeah keeping it a secret and dropping the voting results for each league round and the final table will stop people being able to potentially vote for certain coasters to try and game the results. As it stands everyone is just voting for their preferred coaster in every match up.
