Yes, it's that time of year again - Gay Christmas Eurovision is on the way! It's the UK selection tonight on BBC Two at 7:30. All our entries this year are from people who have appeared on The X Factor in one way or another. Whilst it's true that they're all 'X Factor rejects', I think it's a little bit unfair to use that term in a pejorative sense. I've listened to all our entries, and if I'm honest, they're all...okay. I don't think any of them will win Eurovision at all, and we'll probably be stuck at the lower end of the right hand side of the scoreboard come the final on May 13th. It's quite hard to pick an entry that stands out from the rest, but that's partly because none of them sound all that great. The two that I'd call the 'least worst' are probably Salena Mastroianni's 'I Don't Wanna Fight' and Danyl Johnson's 'Light Up the World'. On tonight's show (which is at the Hammersmith Apollo), The Vamps will be performing their new single 'All Night'. Oh, and there'll be a special appearance from the 2009 Eurovision winner for Norway, Alexander Rybak, performing 'Fairytale'. Even eight years on from that, he still looks so young! It's like he hasn't aged a bit! Anyway, let's just hope we don't do as diabolically bad as we have in the past few years, eh? :p

Can we just skip The Vamps and have this instead?

Have we not triggered Article 50 of the Eurovision T&Cs to save us from our annual embarrassment? I can't imagine we are going to get many points at all this year, regardless of who sings and how good or bad they are! :p

Given Eurovision's in Ukraine this year, it wouldn't surprise me if Verka Serduchka is involved in hosting it somewhat. Even if she only does the Green Room stuff!

Perhaps, but some countries had their performers and songs selected way before Christmas!

Never too early for Eurovision! Not a fan of any of the UK entries this year in all honesty. Holly Brewer is ok, Olivia Garcia if anything just for it being upbeat (ignoring the crap lyrics!). Lucie Jones is more downbeat than the others, but it's grown on me and co-wrote by none other than 2013 winner Emmelie de Forest.

But despite my 'favourites', I don't have a huge feeling of doing well this year, they're all just a bit....meh.

As well as our national final, if you want some variation in song choices - Finland has their final too this weekend, and there's some ridiculous entries. 'Member Gunther? The guy that did that terrible 'ohhh you touch my tra la la' song? Yeah, he's in there...

Terrible! As well as that, we have reached ultimate campness with Club La Persé:

Favourite for them at the moment is 'Emma - Circle Of Light'. Again nothing amazing but it's alright I guess!

Elsewhere, Sweden kicks off their frankly ridiculous selection process in a week's time with 4 semi finals over the course of February with a total of 28 songs to whittle down to an eventual contender. By far the biggest expectation falls on the return of Loreen, who will be appearing last in the fourth semi final on the 25th February. Her song, 'Statements' is supposed to be more like 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' than 'Euphoria'. So interesting to say the least! Oh, and their staging is fiiiiiiit

Anyway, no doubt more ramblings to come from me over the coming months, but yay, Eurovision season!

I'm just finishing watching last night's show. In terms of live performances, I think the eventual winner - Lucie Jones - did give the strongest performance of the lot. Salena struggled with the rapidity of the lyrics in her song, and something not quite right happened with the audio at the start of Danyl's song, which didn't help matters much. The others were all...OK, I guess. Once all the entries have been decided, I'll (eventually) post my thoughts on all of them. Yes, I'm either that bored, or I love Eurovision that much. Or both! :p

Ahh so diplomatic from a hoover. Just admit they were all fairly poor and the least worst won

Well, I do try to be diplomatic, Tom. Doesn't always work. :p Yes, Lucie may have been the least worst of the lot, but as I've listened to it more, I'm cautiously optimistic that we might stand a chance of doing better than we have in the past.

We're close to having all entries for this year. Bulgaria will announce theirs tomorrow, and there's a chance that Russia might not even participate at all for various diplomatic reasons, from what I've gathered. Mainly because it's being hosted in Ukraine.

EDIT: Russia have confirmed their entry. Now to wait and see if they'll actually turn up or not...
