So the semi-final allocation draw was made yesterday, the results for which can be found here. Semi-final 1 is looking more open, whereas the second is gonna be a total bloodbath with hard-hitters like Sweden and Russia. In terms of announced artists, Spain's entry this year is the best they've put forward in years, and with some good staging, could see them move over to the top half for the first time since 2014.
Finland have also just announced their artist, and it is...Darude. Yes, THE Darude of Sandstorm fame. Tel Aviv is gonna be banging.
As for our potential entries? Well...Unless some insane staging is pulled out of the bag, and our song is good live, it'll be bottom 5 for us again.
Oh, and one more thing. San Marino have internally selected Serhat as their entrant this year, which I'm very much looking forward to. Sure, they likely won't qualify again, but it'll be a laugh.

Russia have confirmed who their artist for this year is. As has been rumoured for a while, it will be Sergey Lazarev, who came third with ‘You Are The Only One’ in Stockholm in 2016. After failing to qualify last year, Russia are clearly out to win it again. Their last artist who returned? Dina Bilan, who was 3rd in 2006 and then won in 2008. Could we see the same thing happening again?

It's interesting, really. Russia topped the televote with 361 points in 2016, but only came 6th with the juries on 130 points. One posed argument was that Russia's staging in 2016 was too similar to Sweden's winning entry the year before (oh, Måns Zelmerlöw
) in terms of the projection mapping, and perhaps a bit too clichéd or something. However, I do have to admit that the bits of Russia's back wall that moved were incredibly well-choreographed.
I'm still miffed that Australia didn't win in 2016. Dami Im absolutely NAILED that performance. <3

She’ll do better than Jessica Mauboy, I’m sure, but there’s something about it that I just don’t like for some reason. The staging may need to be changed a bit in order to fit the height of the venue in Tel Aviv, but I’m sure they’ll be fine. I have to say I’m really impressed with Australia’s national final tbh - the standard of entries was pretty high, and it felt like a very good show overall. This is what we should be doing for the UK’s national selection!

MAID would've been diabolical. Great harmonies on the vocals...and that's the only good thing about their version of the song. We would've been guaranteed a rock bottom finish with that piece of distended rectum.I'm just glad we didn't chose MAID.

Easily their best in years. If the staging’s right, I think they could get into the top half for the first time in five years. Maybe even top 10 if they’re lucky!Quite enjoying Spain's entry this year.

It wouldn't be Eurovision without some sort of drama. Ukraine have decided to withdraw. UA: PBC's conduct has been rather dodgy throughout, and I'm unsurprised they've now withdrawn. On the plus side, with an almost-guaranteed qualifier from semi-final 1 now out, it now makes it slightly more open. And yes, I'm desperately hoping that San Marino will qualify.
