We're well into the throes of Gay Christmas Eurovision 2020 season, and I've held off posting this thread until now. Why? Well, our entrant will be revealed on Thursday morning on Radio 1 and Radio 2's breakfast shows. As far as I'm aware, our entrant's never been revealed on Radio 1 before, so this is a potential sign that it's being taken seriously for once. Course, chances are I'm gonna be wrong, but we shall see. 12 of 41 songs have been confirmed so far, with Slovenia deciding theirs tonight and Poland tomorrow. Top of the odds at the moment is 'On Fire' by The Roop from Lithuania.

The other one of note (well, to me at least) is Montaigne from Australia with 'Don't Break Me'. And yes, the whole song was filmed with no camera cuts at all.

Dud of the year has to be France. I'm not even going to bother linking it - it's that bad. It's like the worst possible faux-inspirational song taken from the credits of a straight-to-DVD Disney knock-off.

    So, let discussion commence!

Well I'm sure whoever it is will be a storming success and with a bit of luck we will score 1 point.

Latest rumoured act for us is Mabel. I wouldn't say no.

You do realise Eurovision has nothing to do with the EU, yeah? ;)

I always have problems getting my jokes across in written form.
Yes i know Eurovision is a European broadcast union thing, not a European parliament thing.

The weird thing is, remove the two laughing emojis and it looks like the starting line of a anti Eurovision rant.

I am waiting to see one of them in the local rag near the Eurovision date.

I predict that we will come bottom (or almost bottom) then complain that Eurovision is too political

I can see it ending with us getting no points and the Brexiters using it as a rallying cry to ditch Eurovision

Then again we could win. As punishment. Have to fork out millions to host it next year

Fine by me, so long as I get to attend at least one of the shows. :p

With regards to who we could be sending, the BBC have signed a deal with record company BMG, so the artist will almost certainly be one already signed to them. They've worked with artists like Lewis Capaldi, Mabel, George Ezra, Jess Glynne, and Duffy. Chances are it won't be any of those I've mentioned, but I'd be fine with any of them. Just need to hope that the song's better than the trash we've sent in most recent years (2017's the main exception here) and the staging actually suits the artist way better than whatever it was they did with Michael Rice last year.

Following the release of a teaser video earlier today, the latest rumoured act is the fantastic John Newman. Provided the song's good and the staging is right, he could do some great things for the UK. I just saw one comment on Twitter saying that he could provide an 'Anouk' moment for the UK. For reference, Anouk got the Netherlands to the final in 2013 - their first appearance in the final since 2004 - and finished 9th, which was their best placing since finishing 8th in 1999. John Newman would be an excellent choice for the UK.

Whatever we do its unfortunately turned very political this contest, don't expect us climbing that leaderboard.

Eurovision has always been political. Intentionally so.
The only reason it was started in the first place was to broadcast from the whole of western Europe, across the iron curtain, knowing full well that the poor opressed commies would be watching illegally. It was supposed to be a "look how much fun us free westerners are having! Maybe try defecting?"
