Yes and my point was why not cut back on all this hired stuff... To hire and install it costs a fortune and requires alot of rigging. Why not have an emphasis on fireworks over lighting and effects? Alot less setup and hire costs that way.

A well rounded show uses many elements to build a story. Not just 1 or 2 pieces, but lots of smaller pieces to make up a whole. Such as the stage above can also do this, as well as have all the fire.



It's like saying, why not just have a metal box for a station instead of the alien on Nemesis? Focus on the coaster? That's because the ability to do many things makes a rounded package that impresses more than just doing 1 thing well.

I get what your saying but if Alton don't make huge profits on those weekends wouldn't the public just enjoy a great fireworks show and theme park experience without all the bells and whistles?

But what then separates Alton fireworks shows from shows up and down the country that use just fireworks around the same time of year?

What makes Towers shows so special and unique is the mixture of lighting, pyro and everything in between. They do it better than anyone else in the country.

If they just go down to being just like all other shows in the country, they may aswel stop. As what made it unique, is now gone.

Does anyone know if (or where) the option is to buy passholder tickets for Fireworks this year? The main Fireworks page mentions having to buy tickets if not Platinum in some FAQs but the Book Now link just goes to the full price day options. The pop up to buy tickets shows nothing either, even when you select the Passholder option from the Annual Passes dropdown menu. The passholder hub portal also just greys out the days (as expected) but doesn't give you any option to buy the tickets.

Have they scrapped the Passholder additional charge and we now have to pay full price?

I would really agree with this,

IMO Alton towers fireworks (last year at least) were better than disneys (at the magic kingdom),

Alton's had a very cohesive story, and every thing fit so well and was timed very well with the lighting and fireworks linked really well into the story, in comparison Disney's just felt like a collection of Disney songs and some projections on the castle, with very little story and it was a bit confusing.

The ideas about setting up permanent displaysare a bit off in my opinion and I think there are a number of problems:

first none of that would get past planning permission
also there would be a lot of up keep required for the screens, replacing panels with dead pixels, etc making it cost a lot and having to get people in to fix it and likely having to have firework shows with degraded screens
it also is likely more expensive long term, when renting, the cost can be spread over multiple customers but to spend so much money on something that would be used 3 times a year would be insane.

also I like the idea of a water show, however I think very few people would stop their day and watch it (alton seems more like a go, go, go type of day rushing between rides) and it would probably be prohibitively expensive to maintain

Always have thought should Scarefest and Fireworks be merged into one event because the two events are back to back to each other and the setups for both could be done. Scare Mazes also could provide a bit more capacity for fireworks

They used to be merged into one another. I can remember doing Terror Of The Towers many times on firework nights at the park, back in the early 2000's.

I wish all the rides behind the Towers could still operate during the fireworks I know its for safety but would be cool watching them from top of Smiler Lift Hill.

Do they launch them from the Towers roof or in back of house area. I know a lot of them are near the water on the Towers side

They used to launch some from the roof. Mostly from the lawns in front of the towers however.

The bigger shells are launched from immediately in front of the towers, with the biggest being launched from Her Ladyship Gardens and from fountain square. These are set up once that area of the park has closed for the evening. I think some are also launched from the path leading down to X Sector from trailers. You can spot vehicles driving around setting up the big stuff from about 5.30pm. If you look around the Towers wall along the path between the bottom of Dark Forest and the confectionary stand during fireworks, you can see the big shell tubes set up.
