I think that is the nail on the head for this conversation (and many others round these parts).I think it’s possible to acknowledge both that it’s an impressive show, and that compared to last year it’s somewhat underwhelming.
Even an underwhelming fireworks show at Alton Towers is likely to be one of the best fireworks shows in the nation. A Bronze Medal winner is still on the podium, but it is OK to recognise where they can improve (so long as it is done respectfully), or where they got it right.
We all know what Alton Towers are capable off (both at the higher and lower end of their spectrum), so any discussion here has to be viewed in that light. It is highly unlikely that anyone is discussing the show in comparison to the display they went to down the local park (unless they've specifically stated that in the comment).
