Formula One

Sorry, but... that was an absolutely dire excuse for an F1 race.
One of the most uneventful and generally downright tedious I've ever had the misfortune to sit through - by around half distance, I was too keen for it to end to care about the result. I realise everyone's bored of people complaining about this by now, but the 'look after the tyres' attitude has gone too far and it's spoiling the races, which are now being won by strategists rather than drivers, and it's VERY dull.
2012 was a great year for the sport, this season so far, has not delivered.

Big lover of Formula One but Pirelli are destroying the sport at present. Do I want to watch 22 drivers going at 50% all race? No, I want racers RACING.

It's like telling a tennis player to go easy on their strings...

Worst race I've watched in years and worst start to a season in a long time.

F1 these days resembles endurance racing more than single seater. In fact, as I understand it, it's more like endurance racing than endurance racing is right now. The World Endurance Championship races are pretty much flat out for the entire race these days with nothing like as much tyre management involved.

The Pirellis have certainly spiced up the racing spectacle but I think it's maybe gone a bit too far now. There's almost no point in having qualifying any more. You can do well from pretty much anywhere on the grid if your car's set up to be kind enough on its tyres. Pole position has become meaningless as we saw today.

F1 is supposed to be about the fastest cars and drivers in the world. It would be nice to be able to see them push for more than one lap on a Saturday.

When this year and last year are taken into account in terms of tyres, last year seemed to have got it right. This year, the tyres are appalling. The shot at the end of the race of one of the Ferraris showed that the rears were completely ruined - and they were the hard compound!

To be fair, Pirelli have admitted their mistake and said on Twitter that they will be bringing in new tyre compounds for Silverstone - so things can only get better! :)

F1 cars are getting smaller engines too :( Tbh more than one tyre make needs in on F1.

Luckily, it's been caught early, and the article states that the initial prognosis is good, so a recovery seems likely. Best wishes to him.

At least they've caught it early. Fingers crossed that he is able to recover from it, my best wishes go out to him.

:)

Combined with the V10 engine, he is the defining sound of Formula One. I hope he recovers well.

Meanwhile, gate figures at Silverstone are likely to be down this year. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/motor-racing/f1-145-british-grand-prix-tickets-leave-sales-in-the-slow-lane-as-fans-rebel-against-price-rises-at-silverstone-8662501.html
I think it's a combination of extreme prices, last year's traffic and mud fiasco (which I experienced first hand), Hamilton and Button not being in the title race and also Michael Schumacher's absence knocking a few thousand off the gate figures.

I managed to save up and go last year and whilst it was fantastic being there, it's hard work. I only went on the Sunday but we stayed in a hotel on Saturday night, that was £40 or so, then travel to the track, the walk from a local village car park to the track and then up to Stowe, then the waiting for a race which, in the end, no Brit did well in.

Whilst it was a fantastic day and I'd love to go again, it's a lot to pay out for and is a long day. It doesn't surprise me that they're struggling this year, especially as this season has been so boring so far, and only 1 Brit could challenge, but even that's an outside shout.

Personally, I'd rather skip going a year and save for another European track like Spa, Barcelona or Monaco (I WISH!).

How am I the first one to comment in here?

Well what a race! It was great, had loads of drama and some great racing. The safety car at the end made it really good. Webber had an amazing charge through the field! I think if the SC had some in a few laps earlier he would have done it.

Seeing those tyres blow out was exciting in one respect but bloody scary in another. If any of those drivers or cars had got hit by the main part of the tyre as it blew then we could have been looking at possibly another death in F1.

There was some great skill from the drivers to keep the cars under control and on the track when the tyres went.

It was nice to see Vettel have a bit of bad luck, normally all the bad luck lands on Webber and it was good to see a reversal of this for once.

A great drive by Hamilton to come from the back of the grid to 4th, helped by the SC but still he was really pushing in a damaged car due to the blow out.

I really enjoyed the race and loved the closing laps. If only all F1 races could be that exciting towards the end.

Have them both I say. Cracking weekend of racing though.

Hamilton very unlucky, but showed his speed & determination to scrape 4th.

I thought it was fantastic when nearly the whole crowd cheered as vettel slowed down. I don't think anyone has got anything against him in the main, I just think people were happy that's it's not the same old winner time after time.

Formula One ordered Pirelli to make fragile tyres to spice up the racing. It was the same last year but no one listened because Hamilton was winning races. The sport has a become a joke and is rapidly slowing down year on year.

When the safety car came out yesterday it was kind of embarrassing that it sounded meaner than and looked as fast as the F1 cars through the corners.

They wanted degradation, but I don't think f1 wanted Pirelli to make them so they would disintegrate at 300kph.

Can't wait for the 1600cc lawnmowers next year [/sarcasm]

Once Vettel went out yesterday, that race got into another gear and could have had any of the top five winning. That is why I watch Formula one. It's no disrespect to Vettel, he clearly is an exceptional driver driving the best car on the field, it just gets dull seeing other manufacturers falling over and seemingly letting Vettel waltz to the victory everytime.

Last six laps were exceptional.

It was the same last year

No, it wasn't.

The sport is in a mess, it seems like 80% of the analysis and chat is about tyres, not about drivers. Bored of this season completely.
