Costcappen handed a second tarnished Championship on favourable terms yet again. Only hope now is for the ruling on Monday to come down on RB, however the way they've been ingratiated over the last 2 years by the FIA I frankly think there is absolutely zero chance of anything meaningful happening. Still, the lawsuits that will likely follow should be more exciting than the actual season was!

Can't really call it a tarnished championship this year despite the confusing ruling.

If they were awarded reduced points Verstappen would have had to score just 1 point in the next race to win. The chances of Verstappen not scoring any points in the remaining 4 races and Leclerc picking up every point available is quite remote.

However if that does happen feel free to call this another FIA gifted championship :tearsofjoy:

Fantastic performance from Max, and a drive deserving of the championship. 26 second lead in 28 laps is those conditions is really impressive.

We saw all the drivers show why they are the best drivers in the world. After the second start, there was only a few little mistakes, and most came when being put under a lot of pressure.

Fantastic drive from Vettel to finish sixth, and a great drive by Ocon to keep Lewis behind.

Its easy to look back in hindsight, but the FIA should of made the teams start the race on Wets. It might of still made it a rush in the pits on the first couple of laps, but during the restart, those first few laps on the wets clearing the water really helped the track get rid of those puddles.

The tractor on the track while not all the cars were behind the safety car, which can control the pace better when passing a scene of an incident like we had today is un-acceptable. I feel we got lucky today we did not have a more serious incident.

I have been very critical of Perez, but the contribution he has played to help Max winning his two championships can not be denied. His defensive driving last year stopped Lewis from making a stop under the safety car, and his pressure on Leclerc today forced a mistake.

I wish the TV coverage had been better at the end. We missed Max winning the race, we missed the incident between Perez and Leclerc and we missed the epic battle between Alonso and Vettel at the end.

You certainly can when RB may have had the combined efforts of 70 more engineers than they should've been able to afford to contribute to his car's dominant performance.

I guess we will hopefully find out tomorrow what the punishment will be if they are found guilty.

If they have overspent and do not get points docked then that is unfair.

Celebrations seemed quite subdued. I wonder if there's some underlying worry about what's to come tomorrow with the cost cap investigation, and whether the title will stand after penalties?

Don't really see all the fuss, F1 has had borderline cheating around the rules since it first started.
This simply penalises those who haven't covered their tracks properly, so to speak.

Ferrari piping up is a bit rich, They got caught using loopholes and underhand tactics a few years ago by going round the FIA oil/fuel ruling. They have a long history of doing underhand tactics, so to now try to act mightier than thou and be demanding tough punishments is a bit rich. Merc have been caught with their pants down prior as well.

RB should be bought to task as they went over but any big punishment will end up in the Court of Arbitration for Sport for sure as they will want to save face

edit: Typo

F1 politics is a game to keep speed freak lawyers in employment.
The whole sport, like most sport, is bent from the top down, to protect commercial interests and rip off profits...and things have only got worse in recent years.
How much were those team caps at Silverstone this year???

Apparently a minor breach is up to 5%, which means an overspend of up to £7m. As Martin Brundle said yesterday, that amount of money is far from minor and could get you significant upgrades or even a B-spec car in some cases. Red Bull will obviously get away with a fine and a slap on the wrists, but if that is the case and I was another team, I'd be saying that it is essential that you spend up to 5% more than you are allowed, as it would be worth the punishment.

They have to be stripped of the 2021 drivers title (based on a points deduction). Nothing else will serve to dissuade other teams from "minor" breaches going forward. It would also conveniently correct the fraudulent proceedings of that season too.
Take off your branded cap and think about the precedent this would set for a second.

No drivers championship would ever truly be won until 6-10 months after the fact when their audit was accepted or rejected.

Utter nonsense.

WCC is the place where points deduction would make sense; it'd be a team failure rather than a driver's, and despite all the glory going to the WDC it's the WCC which actually controls where they stand in the pecking order.

How about you remove your branded cap and think about the precedent applying a penalty that has absolutely no consequence would set?

A fine? Every team will then spend 5% over the cap going forward and pay it.
A measly WCC points deduction, a year after the fact and when the team didn't even win it? Who cares?

Every single team except one managed to stay under the cap (non-procedurally). That team won the WDC in the year they breached it. Nothing other than a points deduction to take that away (as Ross Brawn so famously said years ago) would be suitable to deter future breaches.
