Forum Quick Questions

If this is mentioned in Discord I’m really unlikely to have seen it unless I happen to have hopped in at the time, so apologies if that was missed! It’s best to just drop a post in Guest Services for any questions and I‘ll normally be able to pick it up very quickly (even more so when @Burbs gives me a nudge too!). A quick PM to me works too, as that sends me a notification straight away :)
I did PM you on Discord as I thought that was the right thing to do. Should I have done it through the forum?

Ah yes can see you messaged now but it'll only show as a message request due to spam from other servers I'm in. On here is by far the best as I'm guaranteed to get notifications :).

Sorry if this has been asked before but is there any way to successfully embed a facebook post in a forum post?

Facebook's 'Embed' option just seems to give you a lot of extra gibberish and doesn't render.

I just post the web link straight into the message box, and it always seems to embed automatically.

Why is the word bloody censored? What if I suffer from a bloody nose, or have a bloody knee, or cut open a cadaver and have a bloody knife? What if I see a bloody handkerchief, or I'm describing a bloody sanitary pad, or a bloody wound?

I understand the need for a content filter. I feel that this one is a little bit over zealous on this front.

Under the time constraints we had we simply imported an inbuilt list to implement it quickly. I’ll remove that one on that basis.

However, it should also be noted to everyone that such words should be used in the correct context - and not used as an opportunity to insert them as light swear words into their posts. We’ve had isolated instances of this already, and where this happens we will need to edit posts or make changes if necessary.

In a similar vein to Goose, I’d also nominate the word “prick” as a relatively innocuous word that the censor picks up.

Yes, I’m aware that it can be considered a sweary insult, but at the same time, it being in the word filter means you can no longer describe a pin prick, or describe how you saw someone’s ears prick up at the mention of something.
EDIT: Or not… at one time, the swear filter was censoring out “prick”, but it would seem that this has now passed!

I've seen many posts lately that make me wish we had a "facepalm" emoji reaction. Don't suppose there's any possibility of that, is there? We need something betwixt "shock" and "laugh" for the stupidity of this world we are stuck in.

This goes along the same lines as some previous suggestions for extra emojis. As much as they can be used to react to say a link about a news story, they could also be used a little maliciously in order to wind someone up. Even without that intent, it also risks being misunderstood by someone, especially a new member who does not really know an individual’s posting style or intent.

The main point for me though, is that the forum is here for discussion. Too many reactions/emojis only serves to reduce the incentive to take some time to construct a reply in a discussion. For me personally, I kinda like that we still have that here rather than resorting to looking at an emoji count to try and gauge what people think.

A feature i can't seem to find on here is locating new post activity in threads i haven't already posted in.

I tend to click the "new posts" lightning bolt icon for this but it only seems to show a selection of new threads (i'm not sure on what basis).

Is there a general way of seeing which threads have recently been posted in beyond this? I always wonder how other people are discovering threads basically and feel like i'm missing out. In the same regard i'll sometimes read a thread but if i didn't post in it then it doesn't come up again despite ongoing activity.

On mobile, press the "Burger" menu icon in the top left, then click "New Posts".
