Future of the Congo River Rapids

Personally, it needs to be refurbished and stay long term

If it goes, it needs to be replaced by either another rapids, water coaster, a flume or a Shoot the Chute.

It cannot be replaced by another dry rollercoaster 🤔

So.. walking round the towers street gift shop yesterday. I noticed the T-shirts for old rides, Black Hole, Corkie, The Flume and ….. Katanga Canyon 🤔

Does this hint to the removal or renovation/retheme soon?

I wouldn’t read too much into that to be honest….
‘Oh we need some new t shirt design’
‘Shall we do old removed rides’
‘Wait let’s screw with them and at Katanga in - that’ll get the gossiping’

It’s more likely that these are all well known ‘brands’ and logos

They’ve sold these in the Katanga shop for ages haven’t they? Along with the ‘Choo choo’ ones.

Probably just stocking them in Towers Trading too. Not convinced this is evidence of anything.
Ah that makes sense.. phew, I hadn’t been in about 12 years and was a little worried this beauty would be going

I wouldn't go that far, but it is good to see more merchandise for Towers' past rides.

Looks like they are actually working on the rapids in this extended closed period. I guess whatever they are doing may require warmer weather which could be one of the reasons why it closed earlier than normal.

At least they are doing something to it what I really want them to do is get the rapids to the max number of boats they can get up to so it increases the throughput of the ride

I think it would do more for capacity on there if they properly enforced boat sharing.

I haven't ridden it in a while, but on the most recent occasions where I've ridden it, I've noticed that they don't really enforce boat sharing. If they tried to batch groups together a little more, the queue would definitely move more quickly.

It already is running the maximum number of boats. You can only send boats up the lift after specific intervals, so adding more boats will do nothing for capacity, as they will still be stopped and spaced at the bottom of the lift.
Then how come there are boats dotted around the back of house areas unused.

I actually think if they batched it correctly it would move faster to, Congo River Rapids could do with a single rider line to

I did not say they didn't have more boats. I said they are running the ride at its maximum throughput. Boats will not come through the station any quicker than they do now, for the most part. Which means you wont increase the amount of riders per hour.

It was fairly common for boats to ‘queue’ at the bottom of the lift.

I wouldn’t be surprised given the challenges of the last few years with rapids rides if it was a conscious decision to reduce the number of boats to avoid that happening.
Exactly, given how some people now react when they have to wait for more than a few milliseconds, they probably reduced the queuing to stop the risk of people standing up and/or trying to get out because they're too stupid to wait.

I think they've had issues with groups not wanting to boat-share in the past, so it wouldn't suprise me if they got fed up of trying to enforce it. I wonder if the singular ORP camera is a reason for groups wanting boats to themselves.
