Galactica: General Discussion

Going back to the Vive being used. The Lighthouse transmitters use infrared in a similar way to the XBox Kinect, which basically means they can't be used outside because they would get way to much interference from sunlight. I know someone that uses the Kinect to scan people into a computer to get 3D models to use as ragdolls and they say that it can only be used indoors because of this.
While the headset does have a gyro and accelerometer, I think the best tracking comes from using the Lighthouse. So unless they can figure out how to use multiple Lighthouse trackers along the track, I doubt it will be the Vive.

Never know though, could be 100% wrong :p
 
Would there be any point to having the Vive and tracking it with the external sensors? The whole point of the system is that the position of the rider is determined by the system on board the ride, which matches up to the video and then the headset only needs to deal with the angle your head is looking?

Is Galactica broken at the minute? I'm travelling to AT on Friday from Norwich (a long and boring 4 hour drive), and would really like to ride it. It's currently "Unavailable" on ridetimes.co.uk

It hasn't run since Tuesday last week.
 
Annoys me so much they have taken Galactica out of service because of the rubbish VR headsets. Get rid of them, and resort back to Air (which most people preferred) and get it back open. They are advertising the BIG 6 enough, yet you cant do it because its ruddy closed!

I don't think it has been closed because of the VR issues though! They've been awaiting a part which was delayed although no idea if it's turned up yet.

Isn't that the second time in as many months that the ride has gone down and required a part to be manufactured for it?

Well, its just not good enough. If my local car garage can get me a part for my car the same or next day, maybe Alton should try using one of these companies for their spares ;) seriously though, have they tried Amazon? They seem to sell everything thesedays!
 
Where to visitors stand in relation to the BIG 6 CHALLENGE? Surely the must have to honour the free ticket if you get there and it's closed? Can see lots of people queueing in guest services on Towers Street to discuss this...

You have to take a selfie outside the ride with a board and you can do this regardless of wether you rode it or not :)
 
I think this links in with my issue of no passion. How can there be so many issues with these rides at Alton and Thorpe so early in the season don't they do winter maintenance any more? And on another note where do they stand with trading standards having a ride advertised with VR which hasn't? ??

They DO still do winter maintenance at Towers and Thorpe. I think it's probably a case of multiple unprecedented issues presenting themselves.
 
They must have known about VR not working before March it's now nearly June that's quarter of a season not doing what it says it should or even running that is not good enough merlin seem to see to DBGT but ignore galactica why?

Of course they knew it wasn't working. It didn't break they are replacing it with a new system.

last time I went there was 4 members of figment staff on site. Does an increase from the normal 1 or 2 mean anything?
 
So what the heck are they doing how can it take a full closed season and nearly quarter of an open one to fit a new system which they had up and running last March after a few months?
