Galactica: General Discussion

They just got a chunk of new land with the permanent demise of Sub-Terra. Take out the edge arcade and you have yourself a nice area.

Don't think Galactica or any other coaster will be sacrificed for SW9. Maybe one will go for SW10, but that's a bit far in the future.

I hate to say this but I fear with Rita still being a popular ride and spinball being a potential cbeebies expansion site, the most likely ride to be removed for sw9 is nemesis
Considering all the money spent recently on repainting it and the station. I'd say its one of the least likely rides to be removed. Galactica/Air is a far more likely candidate.

The only reason they'd remove one of the major coasters is if they reach the end of their useful life (i.e. they become too expensive to maintain). Nemesis is a prime candidate to be the first major coaster to go, mainly because of it's age though the awkward foundations probably count against it too. Galactica will almost certainly outlive Nemesis by a significant margin, there are several other coasters more likely to be removed in the meantime.

Now the VR has been removed I doubt I will go on it again as Air was last on my list of the SW coasters. Last year was the 1st time I did the VR and thought it was a very good and it went upto 3rd on my list only Nemesis and Wickerman was above it.

The one good thing Nick Varney had said is "I can't imagine us ever removing Nemesis from Alton Towers".

Can't remember if it was those exact words, but that was what he said at the Nemesis 21 event in 2015.

Reminds me of the times a football club has come out to declare their full backing for their struggling manager, only to sack him 2 games later. No ride is forever, all we can do is enjoy it while it’s there

I can't see them scrapping Nemesis any time soon, I firmly believe the next to go would be Rita or Spinball. I hope it's Spinball to be honest, I've never been a fan of it and I'd much rather that go than Rita, although, Rita isn't exactly a star attraction anymore either.

Welcome to the future of theme parks! Errrrr well for 3 years at least.

One thinks this "tech" revolution may have hit the rocks especially with the tragic news I heard on the radio that the plane incident last week maybe due to a piece of the "automated" kit failing. Can you imagine the lawsuits that company are going to have to pay out if this proves to be the case. Technology is the future!! Maybe not afterall

If a coaster has a 15 minute queue for VR during firework weekend, when every other coaster has over an hour queue including nemesis and oblivion, you realise something is wrong.

I don't think Galactica's rubbish VR can be equated to an air disaster... although it is a good euphamism ?

Electronics only fails if it has a reason to. It's more reliable than human error but isn't protected from human error in incorrect installation, design or maintenance. Technology is everything, electronics is just one aspect of that.

Someway, somehow, it would have been possible to turn Galactica into a successful VR concept, but it wouldnt be worth the expense when it's just a gimmick. You'd be better off spending that money on the landscaping and scenery that never happened in 2002
